Let's call out the Freeps and post the Beatitudes!
1.) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
2.) Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
3.) Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
4.) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness. for they shall be filled.
5.) Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
6.) Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
7.) Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
8.) Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Why do wingnuts want to post the Ten Commandments? Jesus got rid of them. THIS is Jesus's law.

7. I recall
a statistic that revealed some absurd number like 40% of the right wingers using the Bible to torment the rest of us can't even read it and more than 80% that could have never read a word of it.

21. That's what I thought
I've found that very often the right wingers don't even know the New Testament stories of Christ.

I seem to remember similar stats --

3. They sure turned religion into something unrecognizable...
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 01:06 AM by ailsagirl
Who couldn't get behind these beautiful concepts?

Lots of stuff they back is decidedly UN-Christian... I don't get it. But then, I never did understand their mindset-- ever. It will probably always be a mystery

10. Because the media sucks
Oh.. you deleted your post.

I don't understand why the so-called "Christian" right wants to wade time in the Old Testament. The New Testament is Chrisianity and Christ - whether it is your belief that he was the Son of God or a prophet or just a really great man - hung out with the alleged lowlifes: prostitues, tax dodgers, (I'm bettin') homosexuals, the poor, the unwashed, the drunks, the burdeoned.

This is why I say that liberals take up these causes - even if they don't believe in the Divinity... it's still better rules to live by that all that "angry God" crap.

It's like my Mom always told me: God had no patience until the Son was his own.

14. They do not want a nation based on Christ's teachings, they
want a nation under Mosaic law. They want a harsh, rigid authoritarian society.

15. I deleted because my question is a little heavy and might cause
an arguement, which just won't do with such a beautiful original post. Sorry for the confusion, maybe a discussion for another day.

11. Correct.
If you have those two, you don't need the other eight.

9. Did he miss the economic edge?
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 01:12 AM by JanMichael
I see some blessings for the poor of "spirit"; and the hungry are apparently satiated by "rightiousness"; I know one can probably spin these things any which way but why he doesn't he say:

Blessed are the poor: for theirs is the Kingdom of Now.

16. perhaps this snippet:
..For I was hungry, and you offered me food. I was thirsty, and you brought me cold water to drink. I was without home, and you invited me in. I was without clothes, and you clothed me. I was ill, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me."

Then the righteous will answer in amazement: "Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you drink? When did we shelter or clothe you? Did we ever care for you when you were ill, or visit you in prison?"

The King will reply: "Truly, inasmuch as you have done such things for the least of my brothers and sisters, you have done the same for me."

To the ones on his left, the King will say: "Depart from me! For I was hungry, and you gave me no food. I was thirsty, and you offered me nothing to drink. I was without home, and you turned me away. I was naked, and you gave me no clothes. I was sick, yet you didn't care for me. I was in prison, but you didn't visit me."

These will protest: "Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or homeless, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and fail to comfort you?"

The King will answer: "Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you have failed to do these things for the least of my brothers and sisters, you have failed to do them for me."

13. a few more for the freeps
Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a
tooth for a tooth:
39
But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever
shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other
also.
40
And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy
coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41
And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him
twain.
42
Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of
thee turn not thou away.

43
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy
neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse
you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which
despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven:
for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and
sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46
For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not
even the publicans the same?
47
And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than
others? do not even the publicans so?
48
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven
is perfect.

17. Tears... oh that is beautiful
I don't mean to make this into the Holy Hour, but...

"And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
"Therefore do not be like them.
For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.
In this manner, therefore, pray."
