If Roe v. Wade is reversed . . .
and a woman is forced to carry a child to full term against her will (at risk of medical complications), should she be assured under the law that she will receive full medical benefits to cover the risk of pregnancy to her health, and to the health of her child?

I am over forty, and have type II diabetes. I have been told I should not have anymore children as it is too risky. How many women like me would be forced to face the possibility of death if abortion is not an option for an unexpected pregnancy?

1. Just don't get pregnant and you won't have problems...
and stay away from condoms too. You know what... just don't have sex if you can't handle the consequences. </sarcasm>

5. Yeah I hear ya . . . I know how they think. . .
What are the chances Roe v. Wade will actually be reversed during *'s next 4 years? I just don't want to believe it will happen, but I have a sick feeling about it with the way this administration works.

2. I don't think it would come to that...
If overturned, it would probably go back to being a state decision, the way it was before Roe.

Most Blue states would probably keep it legal, & most red states would have severe restrictions.

3. You do what you have to do to have the abortion anyway
Overturning Roe vs. Wade would send the matter back to the states, meaning that most of the Red States would ban it (except maybe some of the libertarian Red states like Nevada, Alaska or Colorado) and the Blue States would keep it legal. If you are in a Red State, you go to Canada to get an abortion or go to a Blue State. Pro-choice groups would have to get into the business of raising money to transport poor women to Blue States or Canada to get abortions. I'm all for fighting to preserve Roe vs. Wade, but we also need to realize that it may be a rear-guard battle, given the configuration of power in Washington. People need to start preparing for how to adapt to a post-Roe vs. Wade nation.

4. It would take time to eliminate legal abortion
in America. Before Roe v. Wade, New York State allowed abortion. If Roe v. Wade is overturned, they will then have to chip away at the states that allow abortion.

9. they'll never do it
and the only reason that they won't do it now is because they know that Roe V. Wade only helps them because they can use it as a wedge issue. Overturn Roe V. Wade and they'll lose half of their base to the democrats for economic reasons. They'll never give it up.

14. I think you are incorrect.
The Repugs love it as a winning wedge issue, but by overturning it at the Federal level, they push it into the states. Which is EVEN BETTER for them.

They can then use it as a more powerful wedge in state and local elections. They will also lock in the fundies nationally because the "delivered" and they will continue to point out the "godless" Dems will bring back Roe! Thus, they'll still have their wedge nationally too.

Bet on it.

12. You need a faith-based solution!
The Republicans will set up a prayer circle for you. If you or the baby dies, it was the will of God and it's not the government's job to interfere with the will of God!

13. As a future doctor
I will break the law and perform abortions for women like you, who face significant risk due to pregnancy. I do not intend to perform abortions in my practice, however, if it becomes illegal for women who are themselves at risk or have a child at risk, I am willing to break the law and do it. I dont care about the consequences, my first loyalty is to the safety and well-being of my patients, and I WILL NOT risk losing a patient because she is forced to risk her life.

15. Jurisdiction would be reverted to the states
Abortion laws would be decided in state courts.

Contrary to popular belief, especially on DU among the most ardent pro-choice activists, abortion will not be outlawed nationwide. State courts and state governments will decide if abortion in their respective states will remain legal or be outlawed.
