We polled 100 people..What's the most respected newspaper in the US?
So I'm flipping around the channels last night and I come across "The Family Feud" I had no idea it was still on the air. Richard Karn ("Al" from "Home Improvement") hosts now. This is current not a repeat as far as I could tell. Being a news/pol junky I had to see what the answers were and what the guesses of these "typical American Families" were.

What's the most respected newspaper in the US?

6 publications were on the board totaling 93 votes. Only the last one was NOT guessed by one of the families.

I will post the answers in another post here so you can guess. Make a guess and see if you are right.

9. -
Yeppers it sure is. I once saw an actual survey about how 10% (maybe 20%) thought that Entertainment Tonight WAS news. Seriously.

26. I've actually argued with people about the National Enquirer before
who insist that it's real. Unbelievable. The ignorance in this country is so deep and so hard to penetrate. Disgusting.

34. It may be real, but it's all about how fat Kirstie Alley is
and who killed the latest whomever. Hardly "news"...

There's a rumor (and I never believe rumors, btw) that said that someone at the Enquirer got hold of damaging info about B** (sex incident or the Natl Guard stuff) including pictures, and that's why the editor there was the first victim of the anthrax attacks.

Crazy stuff, huh. It's a rag, but it gets taken seriously.

I don't know if it was the falling down picture of Jenna but it was something right before the anthrax attacks. Who knows?

We DO know that only Democrats and anchormen of "liberal" network news recived them and no one has been charged and the story is slightly closer to the front page than the Eric Rudolph trial....now more about Robert Blake......

The most trusted news source for right wingers.

No wonder the Regurgers want star wars, etc...with all the aliens in our neighborhood.

11. Hmmm I thought it was a Leftist -Jewish- NEW YORK Jewish fish wrapper
The funny part was me trying to figure out which papers (of the ### I was thinking about) weren't on the list. Notice this is filmed in LA and THe LA Times was not on the list. The guy hit the buzzer and guessed that-NOPE! No LA Times in a show taped in LA. I didn't catch where the families were from.

15. Would be instructive to know where they do the initial survey(s).
Based on this one, I would say NYC. There is no way in hell 43% of people NATIONWIDE (i.e. a distributed survey) or in the MIDWEST read the NYT.

16. THAT explains some things!
Now we see the pitiful reason that "average Americans" are so woefully uninformed. They think the National Enquirer is a "newspaper" and most of the rest of them are either pap or RW biased (like the WSJ).

Geez...:eyes:

13. Yeah but what DID they guess?
LA Times? (see post above this is taped in LA and it didn't make the grade)
Washington Times?
I wouldn't be surprised (after seeing this) for someone to guess Fox News or CNN

I immediately was trying to figure out what the missing 7 (one vote each) were.

option.... does that make me "different"??

The Bremer orders are immoral and illegal and must be repealed to allow Iraqis to govern their own economic and political future.

19. Funny when I was in the Army I got a lot of my news from.....
Well the Stars and Stripes yeah and got a NYT Sunday paper (on Monday) and read through it most of the week. We only had one TV station (AFN) and during the first Gulf war they only showed an hour a day of CNN. Other than that you would be amazed at how much you can learn/observe about this country from SNL and Spin/Rolling Stone magazine.

29. Of course not
The point was that not only did 14 people out of 100 say the National Enquirer but one of the contestant actually had that come to mind and guessed it.

35. Allowing british ones... "the economist"... or US "the villiage voice"
If it must be american done... then hmmm.

The villiage voice.

Printing the truth is not an american forte... leaving a vacuum when
considering such a question.

San Jose Mercury news is decent, IMO. NYT is a waste of paper.
