Does MAD TV have a rightward slant to it? Not that it matters or will
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 02:32 PM by NNguyenMD
make a difference, I don't watch it much anyways. But it seems like its political sketches tilt more on humiliating liberals than providing critical commentary on Bush's failed policies. I suppose I shouldn't expect much from Rupert Murdoch's answer to SNL.

Chapelle and Daily Show are infinitly better than both SNl and Mad TV in all aspects if you ask me.

1. With Uncle Rupert signing their checks
What would you expect?

The only reason the Simpsons get away with their left leaning political commentary is because they're such a cash cow for Faux.

2. I've never noticed a political slant to MadTV of any sort.

They seem to me more like... I don't know... humor for people that read Us Magazine. You know... just that apolitical, pop-culture, bubblegum humor.

They do some funny skits at times. I usually enjoy it more than SNL- but it's not exactly socially relevant political satire or anything. :D

3. I guess since it is catered to people who aren't cultured enough for SNL..
... most jokes would be slanted to the right.

4. It Slants Right
I noticed it a while ago. They have this returning character, an awkward, dorky, adolescent girl with a video camera who is always trying to document discrimination. Obviously, they are making fun of liberals. They make fun of liberals more often, and usually in a more biting way. I saw them slam Charelton Heston badly before too, so they probably do have at least one liberal comedy writer.

5. I don't watch it...but Bill O'Reilly was on it last night…
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 07:41 PM by mcscajun
…so I'd have to assume a rightward slant to the show.

9. I don't know what his role was…I just happened to see the listing…
and I had to see for myself that it was for real.

I tuned in long enough to see his ugly mug, and changed the channel. Fast.

7. Yes, I've noticed it.
Often in the form of one liners or skit closing references.

8. They slam everyone. Go watch 'The Critic' (1994, ABC). It was right-wing
or at least it never got a chance to bash repukes... fortunately they kept the anti-clinton stuff to a minimum and kept with a funny plot.

The ones they had last year of * were hilarious.

10. The critic was not right wing. Stop trying to generalize everything.
Not everything has a political slant. You can have a point of view without taking a side in any political or cultural conflicts.

11. Why don't you go WATCH THE SHOW? I did a couple weeks ago:
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 09:49 PM by HypnoToad
The episodes were not one big right-wing mandate. But they did have occasional anti-Clinton jokes that were steeped in reich-wing ideology.

Go watch it again. Speaking against Clinton seemed political, if you ask me. :eyes:

Sigh. Here's a link to get you started, if you're more into reading reviews than watching the show for yourself: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=%22the+critic%22+clinton+joke+sherman&btnG=Search

Not always in every link...

12. I think it slants right, esp. post 9-11
And I don't know the character's name, but there is a very offensive Asian stereotype recurring character done by Bobby Lee. He should be ashamed of himself for doing that crap. Some guy who is totally clueless, refuses to learn a word of English.

I hate shit like that on Mad TV
