1. not just because they want to make a political statement
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 02:32 PM by eleonora
But Moore also had the balls to investigate the government and produce his film. And this is rare in this country.

2. I didn't think it was eligible.
Didn't Michael Moore make it ineligible by releasing it on dvd or pay per view prior to an allowed date?

4. That was for Best Documentary
He bowed out of the Best Documentary category so he could try to get the film on TV before the election and compete for Best Picture too.

5. What I heard is, that made it ineligible for Best Documentary, but it's...
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 02:35 PM by bobweaver
...still eligible for Best Picture, Best Director, etc. I think I recently heard that the Directors Guild of America did include Moore in their nominations for their own best director award.

6. Yes that's what I heard too- he wanted to get it out before the election
so it disqualified him from the Oscar's.

19. This is what I thought
I remember him stating that releasing it on DVD before 11/2 was more important to him then winning an Oscar.

However, I think it would be wonderful if he did!

8. Political Oscars
I expect lots of whining this year as we get closer to the Oscars. It will be a replay of F911 vs Passion. I feel sorry for many movies that get stuck in the crossfire.

9. No, it won't, and not because the Academy is afraid
Here's what I think will be the Best Picture nods come Tuesday...

The Aviator
Finding Neverland
Sideways
Million Dollar Baby
Hotel Rwanda

All deserving of a Best Pic nod. I don't think there's room for F-9/11.

Oh .... Imagine letting F911 in, and leaving 'Ray' out .....

No fucking way ..... F911 will not get in ....

10. Moore took it our of the running because he was in negotiations to air it
on cable/satellite prior to the Nov election. Then, mysteriously, the negotiations broke down leaving 9/11 ineligible AND unbroadcast.

You are confusing Best Documentary and Best Picture.

15. No, he took it out of best documentary to compete for best picture.
The potential (but scuttled) broadcast made it ineligible for all Oscars, IIRC.

13. Voted for the top line on F. 9/11 .
Moore's film is snappy, persuasive, and better edited than a lot of documentaries, and it made a record profit for a film of its kind.

Big bucks and big impact = nomination.

the Golden Globe's if that's any indication.

Leo got a Golden Globe for best actor in it, too..he reminded people to donate to the tsunami victims when he accepted.

Michael wanted F9/11 to be on tv before the election, so badly that he forfeited his chance to run for best documentary.

We shall see if it gets any nominations.

The People's Choice gave him the best picture award.

18. Just read in the newspaper,
I think in the "Living" section of the Times Picayune, that neither Passion nor F9/11 is likely to be nominated for best pic. Said that the buzz is that MM will win best director tho.

23. I hope those "Hollywood types" are mad enough to push MM
through for some major nods. They sure took alot of flack from the Republicans, and most recently Bill O'Reilly vs. George Clooney.

I remember MM saying awards weren't as important as defeating GWB and probably why his website went dark the week after the election. He was really upset :(

35. My "Hollywood Type" Hub Put F-9/11 On His Best Pic List
A lot of people wonder what the difference is between Best Pic & Best Director. The difference is in the noms; the whole Academy body nominates best pictures and their branch. So let's say you are an actor, then you nominate five actors and five best pics.

Then once there are noms, everyone gets to vote in every category although there are some restrictions, like to vote for short subjects or docs or foreign, you have to attend special screenings to show that you have seen them all.

because he forfeited the Doc nomination so he could release the movie on DVD and Pay Per View.

32. I don't know.
I know Pay Per View had made the decision not to air it PRIOR to the election and refused to state why. No doubt a threat from KKKRove has something to do with it. I "think" he HAD to make the decision on whether he would release it for PPV and TV because the nominations had to be turned in by a certain date. He made the decision to have as many people as possible see the film before the election and no RW network would air it. He forfeited the Documentary nomination in order to do that. I remember his article on his web site giving his decision and the reasons why.

26. It would be the perfect time for "those Hollwood types" to send a message
to the RW wackos. I voted yes and I hope I'm right. The wackos went beserk over the Peoples Choice Award. Just imagine what kind of hysteria we'll have if he wins a DESERVING Oscar! I can't wait. I do hope he wins and wins BIG. Best pic AND director would send them over the edge. :bounce:

but not as good as Spiderman 2 which is one of the very few sequels that was better than a good original (Aliens is the other one that comes to mind).
