I'm sick of this 'Free Speach Zone' crap
I was always led to beleive that the ENTIRE COUNTRY was one big free speach zone. Why do we have to be hearded into little fenced in pens for 'our protection'? If I have something to say positive or negative about anyone anywhere it is my Constitutional right to be able to say it when, and where I please!

4. free speech zone are a backlash from the abortion rights fight.
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 03:41 PM by KG
the same ruling that keep pro-fetus crazies from hassling clients at abortion offices are used to keep demonstrators away from certain other functions.

5. Its important to note that it is a perversion of a law we got passed
It was initially designed to protect abortion clinics. Protestors would pile up in front of the door and not let anyone in. The law stipulated that they had to allow free access to the facilities and maintain a specified distance.

The law got twisted to instead create an enclosure where freespeech was allowed.

7. for our protection
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 04:46 PM by PowerToThePeople
The reason is that people get realy pissed off when they are shown their evil ways, so if we speak the truth in close proximity to repukes they might try to beat the crap out of us...

8. Then you were massively misled... it's not even *supposed* to be that way
The *entire country*, literally taken has never even been *intended* to be "one big free speech zone*. There have always been lots of restrictions on "free speech". You can't generally spout off in courtrooms, for example. Most of those restrictions are reasonable (so the judiciary has said).

But of course, for the specific, recent changes gdub has put in, you're completely right. Essentially, political dissent has been banned - which constitutes, in effect, banning America.

9. Remember Brown?
At the very fundamental level no free speach zone can meet a constitutional challenge if Brown vs. the Board of Education stands. Was that not where the court decreed that separate is not equal? Well, if its true for a school it true for speach as well. A free speach zone does not provide equal protection under or application of the law by definition because of the Courts decision.

Seems to me anyway ......
