WE JUST GOT OUR DNC CREDIT CARDS! YEA!
They are Providian DNC cards. 1% annually is donated to the DNC. 0 annual fee. APR is kind of high at 18.99%.

But hey...if'n you wanted a credit card...and are sick of giving money to the nazi's...wouldn't be a bad choice.

Their site is www.providian.com.

Now...I want everybody to know...I do not condone credit cards. But I'm trying to rebuild my credit. I got rid of all my cc's 10 years ago. But I needed four lines of credit...and in the past eight months have gotten 3 cards. This was my fourth and final...and although I don't use my other ones (other than to use and pay in full each month), I could think of no better card for my last one.

Does anybody else know of Dem cards? This would be a good place to list them.

1. kinda unrelated, but..
why do you need 4 lines of credit? I thought having having more CC's versus less, was bad for one's credit score.

7. Well my girlfriend use to teach people how to build credit...
and the reason is...I'm trying to buy a house. I have no mortgage...I have no car payment. I had no lines of credit whatsoever.

They generally ask for a few lines of credit. They don't want them maxed out because thats a bad debt/income ratio. They don't want late payments.

So...to rebuild my credit...I first got a secured credit card (its all i could get). After about 3 months...I started getting offers. Where they wouldn't accept me before...I now had now problem. I received an unsecured card. I then got a gas card (it was just the next one to come along....and keeps me honest. Buy a couple tanks of gas...easily pay it all each pay period).

This was the last one.

In the past year...my credit has gone from about 550-575 to about 670-680. Still not great but...tons better than before. The one hard part is watching the intial dip when you get a card. It drops your score a bit. But once they start reporting after about 3 months...it slowly starts going up.

Obviously I did some other things to bring it up that much (paying of any outstanding balances on my report). But the goal is 700...so I can get A-paper (lower interest rates).

3. Be careful with Providian
It's a good idea to get yourself some good credit history, and this sounds like a good deal. However, be extremely careful with Providian. They have an extremely shady history, including offering one rate and delivering another. I had one of their cards and discovered they were charging me interest even when I carried no balance whatsoever. It only happened a couple of times, but that was enough. I cancelled the card.

I have other "support your favorite cause" cards through MBNA. They also have a bad reputation, but I haven't had any trouble with them, so I'm keeping the cards.

I'm not saying you've done something unwise. Just keep an eye on them.

Couldn't the DNC find somebody else?

6. Come to think of it
That APR is kind of high. If you don't pay any interest, that won't matter, though. But as I said, they charged me interest on current purchases a couple of times.

8. The letter with the cards only says....
www.providian.com.

Maybe do a search for DNC.

And to wryter...you are correct it is quite steep. I generally...ahem..."paygo"...hehe. I avoid a lot of the interest and penalties.

And the g/f is very diligent about watching the charges made by the issuing company. She busted them a few times. Ain't that scary?
