Those "Support our Troops" ribbons, placed sideways, look like Jesus fish
I used to wonder if that is accidental or by design. I have seen enough of them placed sideways, so that they take the same shape as the "Jesus fish" symbols - and on cars with enough room to have placed them upright - that I am sure it is an inside joke among Christians.

A hidden message to other Christians and a subliminal message to others that good Americans are Christians.

Has anyone else noticed the similarity of the magnetic ribbons placed sideways and the "fish"?

2. Ankh - that's the sideways fish.
"A cross shaped like a T with a loop at the top, especially as used in ancient Egypt as a symbol of life. Also called ansate cross."

15. Yeah, I heard that too...
I know I wouldn't put one on my car, I have a nice car and don't want the paint messed up. It looks like some will be in for an unpleasant surprise when they take those things off, hope it was worth it to them. }(

4. Support our troops = Jesus fish
I hadn't noticed that particularly about them, but my guess is it's intentional. I actually had a marital squabble about the "support our troops" ribbon. I'm in a mixed marriage (married to Republican). My husband put one on the car. I say "support our troops" means support George Bush and the war in Iraq. My husband says they mean only what they say, and that I'm a paranoid wingnut. Who's right?

11. It's implied that we don't support the troops.
The contemptable lawn signs that popped up here in MN said Support OUR Troops (And "Liberate Iraq"). The "OUR" was emphasized, which anyone who understands rhetoric would say "why are they emphasizing the 'OUR' in that phrase? Are there Americans who support troops from other countries?"
It's subtle, but the RNM (Repbulican Noise Machine) knows how to be subtle. Don't ever forget that.
That, and the auspicious timing of these "Support our Troops" ribbons: they cropped up right before the war.

6. That's why my neighbor did it
I asked her yesterday, all innocent, "Oh, that ribbon look like a Jesus fish turned sideways!" She said, "I Know! That's why I did it, so everyone who sees it will know a Christian is driving the car and supporting our troops."

18. I'm so glad these people call attention to themselves.
A mark of shame, is what it will prove to be.

Yes, indeed, I want to know exactly who these people are ...

10. We need "troops ribbons" with feet...Support American Science
They have 'Support the Troops' and 'God Bless America' on their fish looking ribbons.

We need 'Support the Troops' and "Support American Science' on OUR Darwin looking ribbons.

12. it is just a very popular ribbon desing/arrangement
all of these memorial/tribute/support ribbons look like that.

examples:

http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=&q=aids+ribbon&btnG=Search

i believe yoiu are reading a bit much into it. i am sure somewhere Sally May told Betty Lou that her magnent looks like a jesus fish so they knew george bush must be blessed...
in my opinion the resemblance to the ichthus (jesus fish) is coincidental. i could be wrong, but it seems like ribbons have been sported in that fashion for many years.

as for the sideways placement, sometimes that is the only way they will fit on some trunks, however i am sure some other folks will get kick out of making it into a jesus fish.

13. On the record, those ribbons are the dumbest thing ever.
It's like screaming from your rooftop, "I support the troops, I support the troops!"

If they really supported the troops, they'd be plastering their ribbons to unarmored Humvees in the desert.

Punks.

14. Ribbons don't support the troops, Federal Income Tax Revenues do...
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 07:08 PM by NAO
so shut the f**k up about your goddamn tax cuts, and if you REALLY want to 'support the troops', then PAY YOUR F**KING TAXES; don't try to get out of them and vote against politicians that say they will cut them.

That's the sticker I want for all these idiots who drive $40K status symbol / oil-depletion cargo vehicles and then put little magnetic stickers on the back about 'supporting the troops' and then go and vote for politicians who would decrease taxes, thereby decreasing the funds in the treasury, thereby gutting the support for the troops.

It's not that hard to figure out, if you just think it thru!
