3. Interesting, and very neat. |
|
I do have some concerns, though:
Is it somehow wrong to believe that humans have rights superior to lesser beings? We're not equating the worth of humans with animals are we?
Aren't terrorists the root cause of terrorism?
Otherwise, a good piece of satire.

4. The U.S. CIA overthrew the democratically elected leader of Iran in 1953, |
|
simply because he nationalized Iran's oil industry. The U.S. has been exerting control and power over Middle Eastern governments ever since then (and even before that). The hatred for the U.S. that fuels the terrorist's actions isn't rooted in the terrorists themselves, it is rooted in the U.S.'s actions in the Middle East.

6. So that justifies deliberate attacks on civilians? |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 02:03 AM by Lone_Wolf_Moderate
Disputes over foreign policy can be settled with discourse, but attacking innocent civilians isn't peaceful discourse, it's terror. America has made mistakes, sure, but none that justify the attacks of 9-11. You're probably right that a lot of resentment from a lot of those in the Middle East comes from past missteps, but I don't think it's arrogant or silly to suggest that our good deeds outweigh our bad ones, and that most of the terrorists committed to our demise hate us more for who we are, rather than what we've done.
Anyway, that's just my opinion. LIke I said, good satire, otherwise.

9. It doesn't "justify" anything |
|
but it's the answer to the "why?" that no one wants to deal with. They hate us because of our brutal, underhanded and manipulative foreign policy.
I don't think either side is justified in their plotting or violence, but for me, the two are morally equivalent. Already in retalliation for a country that didn't pull off 9/11, we've killed as many as 30 times the people that were killed in NYC.
The answer to that "why" is because though I value my life and love America, I do not see my own, or anyone's inherent worth as better than another's.

"Is it somehow wrong to believe that humans have rights superior to lesser beings? We're not equating the worth of humans with animals are we?"
I would say that depends. People can perform acts so wrong and horrid that some sort of penalty is deserved. Animals never do. If a dog attacks a person, it's always, always the owner's fault, not the dog's.
"Aren't terrorists the root cause of terrorism?"
No more than professors are the root cause of science :)
