1984
Jan. 20 was definitely a day of mourning our house. After answering emails from my "concerned" friends, my partner and had dinner and he said, "In honor of the day, guess what arrived from Netflix today? 1984." Folks, if you want to be scared sh*tless simply from the eerie deja vu of it, take a look at this film - or better yet - read the book. Written in 1949, the story is as prophetic as a bible - it is all happening right now. I remain in shock.

2. My philosophy teacher had us read it last year.
tried to convince us that there are NO similarities of what is going on now. I myself thought he was insane. I gave it to my friend, she just finished reading it. Scared her to.

3. My daughter's English class is reading it now.
Any smart liberal teacher should have their class do the same.
We must alert the masses!

6. "Homage to Catalonia"
That would be another good Orwell read as it's a picture of the polarization that led to the Spanish civil war.

7. Yes
The Christian right votes for Bush. Then they preach about an uprising of the antichrist persecuting the righteous and reiging temporarily as the world ends. I was taught this in 7th grade bible class, believe it or not; but if they TRULY believe the bible's prophacy, how can they be so blind?

As of 1984... I find it MORE prophetic than the bible, personally =l

Its actually set in the US in the near future... and seems like a different but equally possible vision of the future.

1984 scares the shit out of me because I live in air strip 1.

10. I've been aware
of how close to 1984 Bush has brought us for quite a while. The amount of newspeak used in his policies and speeches was my first warning sign.

11. Frank Luntz reads it twice a year. His favorite book
...so now you know why their speeches a filled with newspeak, Orwellian misdirection, and blatant oxymorons fo policy names.

Of course he swears he doesn't use it as a bible or guidebook. He just finds it fascinating.:eyes:
