Uh oh. I hope I don't get a knock on the door.
Listening to my Congressman Bill Thomas, Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee on Meet the Press this morning spread lies about Social Security and Medicare, I sent him an email to let him know what I think. Now I'm thinking it was too strong. This is what I said.

I'm watching your disgusting lies about Social Security and Medicare on Meet the Press this morning. As a citizen of your district and as one who just lost her husband, do you really want me to kill myself in front of your office after you destroy these programs? If you succeed in putting this on the calendar and privatizing social security, which incidentally is another scheme for the robber barons in the White House to steal food from the mouths of poor seniors, I will do just that in protest because I have nothing more to lose.

For once I beseech you Republican social darwinists to do the right thing and don't touch these insurance programs that have benefitted senior citizens since they were instituted. These privatization schemes don't work as has been proved in Chile and England.

You would be wise to start distancing yourself from George and the PNAC Straussians presently in power because they are headed for a crash and no doubt will end up on trial before Bush's term is over.

There is only so much treason against the Constitution that can be committed before they will be brought down. The rumblings are already starting, so if you can't do something meaningful to help Social Security and Medicare, leave it alone and stop spreading astroturf over the media.

Maybe I shouldn't have sent it. I was really angry when I wrote it.

Letters are read and tallied on the issues. You made your feelings heard and understood.

These people lead lives very different from ordinary people, and they have no concept of how their abstract schemes affect real peoples lives. I'm sorry you're in such pain, but at least he got a taste of life from a real person.

I told him I would vote straight party democrat for the rest of my life because he is a "moderate" republican but even he is being swayed by the neocon movement. He sent me back a three-page letter with this angry signature - the end of his signature trailed halfway up the page. It made my day :D

Medicaid and the Patriot Act. He replied by thanking me for my support and bragging about his own particular contributions to these monstrosities. Now, every time he does something to make it even worse, I am on his automatic letter list bragging about how he is screwing us even more.
In my letter, I even said I would do all I could to insure he is not re-elected.

You won't get a knock on the door unless you've actually threatened to show up with a gun and shoot THEM.

They don't give a rip if you kill yourself. They feel it's your duty, since you're just a useless eater after devoting your whole life to work and family.

They really do think that way.

Don't be surprised, though, when you receive the form letter reply thanking you for taking the time to write and assuring you that Congressman Thomas enjoys hearing from his "constituents." Of course, since you're a Dem, you don't count. You are talking to a wall.

I officially live in the Congressional District of Elton Gallagly, a cretin who puts the "puke" in repuke. It would never occur to me to contact his office since he rubberstamps every atrocity the chimp commits and wins every time with 65% of the vote.

Barbara Boxer is the only person in Washinton representing me at this point, and I am confident that she'll do everything in her power to expose and fight these thugs every inch of the way.

Back to the subject at hand, they will do something to social security, maybe not what they want entirely, but, enough to create a big enough of a fuck up that the only solution will be a rebuild.
I don't think they'll knock on the door just add another page to you're file.

21. This certainly may help build Shrub's case for massive....
...psychological testing of all residents in the country. You would not really take your own life if Social Security was totally dismantled would you?

As far as the men in black coming and knocking on your front door, that would only happen if you had made a direct threat against Congressman Bill Thomas, which it does not appear that you did. However, you certainly called him on his line of propaganda although again, no Straussian neo-conservative will ever acknowledge that fact. Instead, they would likely write-off your statements as liberal name calling and mental illness. I personally liked the letter except for the part where you threatened to take your life. That never gets anywhere with neoconservatives who regard such suggestions as a victory against liberalism. If you actually carried out such an act these people would simply see it as one less liberal that they have to deal with.

Hang in there, it will get better.

And I'm sorry about your loss. My husband has MS, and his only source of income is the pittance from SSI. The work he loved and was trained in--truck driving- he lost the ability to do fairly young, so he worked in low paying part time jobs as long as he could. I have a decent job and insurance, so we do OK, but there are many like my husband who have no one. Who speaks for them? Just a few voices like yours. No, I don't think it was too strong. Thank you for writing it.

37. Truckers: The Knights of the Highway
Was a time when truckers would stop and help stranded motorists with flat tires, run them to the nearest gas station if they ran out of gas, and do other helpful things.

Until the trucking industry started putting them on too tight schedules. But even so, many truckers still help out when they can.

Here's to the Knights of the Highway :toast:

And are you sure you're okay? You threatened to commit suicide, in writing, to a stranger who is also a U.S. Congressman. I'm surprised at some of the others' comments. It is a good letter, except for that first paragraph.

A few weeks ago, a minister named Gene Chapman threatened to commit suicide at an IRS office in Greenville, SC - only he posted his threat on the internet, apparently in the form of a press release, and said what day and time he was going to do it. The police picked him up and took him to the psych ward.

I can't find any actual news stories, but there are quite a few Google hits - including someone who felt compelled to warn Our Great Pretzeldent through congress.org and a freeper thread:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/1313083/posts

So don't write any more letters like that, OK? I'm sorry you lost your husband; I know it's really hard. Please take care of yourself, physically and emotionally.

It worries me your first paragraph. Most of us are truly really angry at what is happening to this country and it is frustrating beyond belief.

Can you get to a group of some sort for support and to work out your feelings? I don't mean to be a busy body, but only mean to show my concern for you and to let you know that people do care about you even if it is an anonymous person or people on a talk forum.
