US Army recruiter chased off campus.
Sgt. 1st Class Jeff Due, right, a U.S. Army recruiter, is surrounded by protesters at Seattle Central Community College, Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, in Seattle. After about a 10-minute standoff during which protesters tore up U.S Army literature, the protesters were successful in getting Due and another recruiter to leave their table under escort by campus security officers.

4. You seem to be making the assumption...

...that the war needs to be fought at all.

If a war is illegal and unnecessary, I'll fight to keep people from being hoodwinked into signing up to fight it, and also fight to keep them from getting drafted.

So you're right. In this case, I'd chase off recruiters AND bitch when the draft starts.

But if the cause be not good, the king himself hath a heavy reckoning to make, when all those legs and arms and heads, chopped off in battle, shall join together at the latter day and cry all 'We died at such a place;' some swearing, some crying for a surgeon, some upon their wives left poor behind them, some upon the debts they owe, some upon their children rawly left. I am afeard there are few die well that die in a battle; for how can they charitably dispose of any thing, when blood is their argument? Now, if these men do not die well, it will be a black matter for the king that led them to it; whom to disobey were against all proportion of subjection.

9. People sure make alot of assumptions around here
Look at my name, I'm retired military. I retired from an all volunteer military, if people want to keep a volunteer military than the recruiters have to beable to do their job.

13. Given that a volunteer military often equates to an economic draft
I'd say it's MORE important that unjust wars not be fought, whether or not the solidiers have volunteered or been drafted.

I have two draft-age sons. If the actual United States were 'invaded' somehow, not only would I not have a problem with them getting drafted to defend the US, I'm as likely to pick up a rifle my old self.

However, if they are to be used in the service of Empire instead, I'd rather lock them in the basement than see them shipped to a far off land to fight for corporations. Whether they wanted to or not.

14. Who assumed anything?
So you're retired military from an all volunteer army. Nobody assumed otherwise.

Those two facts don't mean we need to let recruiters do their job on campus to avoid a draft.
I would welcome a draft. Only that would expose the real character of this administration. Kerry forced Bush to say "we will not have an all volunteer army....er....um...no, I mean we WILL!! WE WILL!"
So if he is required to go back on that then praise the Lord!

Chase those recruiters right out of town! They are working for Bush and he spreads only pain and suffering born of his own ignorance and stupidity.

16. Just because the war doesn't "need" to be fought...
doesn't mean that it will stop being fought. I agree with that what you said about the war. I just doen't think it changes the reality of the situation. Now we're going to fight another illegal war against Iran.

18. The harder it is for them to acquire more fresh soldiers...
..the harder it will be for them to keep enlarging the war.

It does not change the reality of the situation. But the reality of the situation is that tanks do not drive themselves, bombs do not drop themselves, planes do not fix themselves, etc...

I'm speaking from a viewpoint that has almost NO political representation in our government, and absolutely no political power. What other tool is in my toolbox at this point?

15. You think this is bad wait til a draft actually starts.
A lot off pig ass kicking is in our future. Kids won't leave their play stations to fight in Iraq. They have been trained on Grand Theft Auto for insurgent techniques. This is going to make Nam look like a party.

Imagine the LA riots of 92, except everywhere.

17. I never thought of that.
Your GTA theory is interesting. I guess the assumption is that these people will fight back. I'm not sure if they would.
