Who's met Schimpanski face-to-face?
I ask because all these media twits keep saying "yeah I hated the dork, but when he shook my hand this feeling swept over me and I realized HE'S JUST A REGULAR GUY!"

I've only seen him on TV, giving speeches (badly), interviews (clumsily), and debates (inarticulately). He seems charmless, dull, smarmy, and a thoroughgoing jerk.

So is this mystery charisma the real deal or an invention of Karl Rove and the Kool-Aid kids?

Anybody here been charmed by the frog prince?

2. I met him in 1989
When he was "just" the managing partner of the Texas Rangers, and the son of the President. I watched about five innings of a game with him in the front row at old Arlington Stadium.

He was a very engaging, nice person to be around. I have posted this at DU before, and was probably flamed for it. I don't care. That was when I was a college student and he was rather far from being the head resident in the White House.

4. I've heard he can be quite charming with people he likes ...
No flaming from me, tcfrogs.

There's no question that he can be nice, when he wants to be. A professional politician wouldn't get far, otherwise.

3. As Molly Ivins said in one of her columns once, "I really like my dry
cleaner. I wouldn't mind having a beer with him. But I wouldn't vote for him for President!!!"
