Johnny Carson donated $10,000 to DNC in 1996
Got that off of Newsmeat which had the following political donations for Johnny Carson:

$10,000--DNC, 1996

In the 1980 presidential election it appears that Johnny was covering all the bases:
$1,000 to President Jimmy Carter
$1,000 to Senator Edward Kennedy
$1,000 to Governor Edmund G. Brown
$1,000 to ex-Gov. Ronald Reagan

Since the last donation was made to President Carter, I feel he must have favored him in the end.

1. A lot of Democrats on Johnny's list.
Thank you, Johnny. Late night television hasn't been as good since you left it.

2. I think Carson was a Dem
but he knew Reagan...He was on the Tonight Show occasionally, & they seemed to like each other.

3. Carson was a genius and great guy.
During the 60's we loved him and our parents loved him. Now you figure out how good you have to be to pull that off in the 60's with the generation gap. He was extremely clever and his ongoing humor had a sub-text that let you know that he was "totally cool." You can tell a lot about him by the two guests he chose for his final show: Bette Midler and Robin Williams. Those were the people, of all he could have asked, that he chose. The guy rocked.

6. The last of the true UNITERS.
Everybody watched Johnny. It didn't matter what one's political affiliation was. We were all Americans. We all loved Johnny. He was our barometer of real America.

Now all we have is hate radio. Hate TV. And fucking Leno.

Dammit.
