Johnny Carson has effectively hijacked the 3 major news channels |
|
Something that's very hard to do these days. For several hours now, it's the only thing they are covering. Amazing.

it's hard to overestimate his impact on American culture. His death is by far the biggest news today.

5. Maybe we'll be reminded of a truly decent guy, a real talent, somebody |
|
everybody could like and one "cool" dude. His taste and sense of "the new" and innovative laid the foundation for a host of talents we might be without.
Anyone who hijacks the networks, essentially prevents them from spreading their filth for at least a little while. This was Carson's last gift to us.
Thanks for everything Johnny!

6. Expect no less than a week of Carson obsession. |
|
That`s the way things work with corporate media. While they`re silent on the Plame investigation or the secret airplanes flying our "enemies" off to be tortured, they`ll send a small army of newsreaders to cover a 20-mile an hour wind or a rumored Michael Jackson sighting. That`s why I`ve been corporate media free since November 3rd. These shallow, spineless fools don`t deserve one minute of my time.

13. Agreed! A bit disappointing to see criticism |
|
of the coverage of his death. I'm not in the US but he was an institution for many years. As long as it's not overboard maybe...

8. What news has broken in the Plame investigation |
|
that's being neglected?
EVERY time something happens in the news that doesn't involve a slam against Bush, a contingent here claims that it's the "corporate media" creating diversions to protect Bush. That's silly.
There is NOTHING new to report in the Plame investigation - that's why you're not seeing it covered.
Johnny Carson's death *IS* news, and it's being covered.

9. If it tastes like shit, it will come out like shit. |
|
The corporate news only relates what it thinks the American people have an appetite for.
Plame is a dead horse that many here want to ride off into the Sunset. Nothing is going to happen with that crime, might as well focus on the future or mourning Carson.

the corporate news (is there an unincorporated mainstream news outlet?) reports what people want to watch. It's pretty much always been that way.
I guarantee if somebody starts a 24-hour Valerie Plame News Channel, they would get about 3 viewers, and two of them would be Plame and her husband.

11. Are you kidding, if they started that channel... |
|
We'd be inundated by threads on the "current happenings" on TV from the handful of people that seem to be obsessed over Plame. They'd probably even get their own DU group or forum. You know, now that I think about it, I'm kind of shocked there isn't some sort of Plame group for those people. Thank goodness those stupid "Plame Update" threads finally stopped. It was always the same rehashing of the same news every time.

you're probably right.
The fact is, I have NO idea (and neither does anybody here) whether the grand jury investigation will result in anything. I think people are hanging a whole lot of hope on it, though, and they may well be disappointed.
