Joyce Meyers, Benny Hinn, Pat Robertson, make 100 Million a year
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 07:07 AM by mopaul
How much did Jesus make per year in comparison I wonder? And I wonder what Jesus might have done with 100 million a year? And I wonder if Jesus would approve of someone making 100 million a year IN HIS NAME? And I wonder if these 'preachers' deserve the money they suck in by repeating Bible verses and saying bla bla bla on t.v.?

I suspect that they do not worship God, but mammon.

1. churches are often refuges
for conmen. Personally, I have always looked on with suspicion any person perporting to be a religious leader who wears grand clothes and has lots of money.

2. It's "mammon," but you're right, that's what they worship
There's that one verse about camels going through the eyes of needles easier than rich men getting into heaven. And the one about the way to heaven being selling all you have and giving the money to the poor--which, I fear, was really Jesus telling one guy to get the fuck out of his face because the guy was pissing Jesus off, but asshats like Rusty Yates have decided it applies to them too. (Remember the old Greyhound bus?)

No, Pat and Benny have come upon the Ultimate Racket: tell someone he's going to hell and He Will Give You Money!

whom I detest more, the televangelists or the brainwashed screwballs that donate to their coffers.

5. joyce meyers "church"
I live a few miles from joyce meyers "church", it's easy to spot because of the large purple neon cross. I have never heard of any stories of people being helped by her "ministry": she has an indoor skateboard park, and you can go there if you go to church for one hour. She donated $100,000 for computers for our school district, but that was after it was decided she didn't have to pay taxes anymore (and within a few years we had to vote to pay more taxes to make up the loss of the taxes she had been paying).

13. good point
THe both look like they are still living in the 80s. They spend lots of money on their appearances and don't get good results.
Are you familar with Larry Rice? He looks like someone who is really giving his money to help the poor. He walks the walk more than any of them, but he doesn't bring in the big bucks like meyers does. Too bad.

7. how much do the people who work for them make? Are they
allowed liveable wages? I do not object to any employer making good money: it is when all the liveable wages are paid at the top, and the people on the bottom are used like slaves, that gets to me.

Other than that, I don't care how a person makes their money if they are not hurting others in their pursuits.

8. They get lots of their money from lonely old people who cut down
on food & meds, so they can "support" the ministry:puke:

11. How true
I'll never forget my ex-mother-in-law when her husband died. She was REALLY out of it for a long time.

Before any of her kids or grandchild knew it, she'd given the whole insurance policy proceeds to Jimmy Swaggert. :grr:

10. Inside information here.

I spent 9 years working for a ministry at one of their many TV stations.

They pay shit wages. Granted, the guy I worked for was no Paul Crouch or Rod Parsley, but he wasn't having to call in sick because he didn't have money for gas to go to work, either.

"Ministrys" don't have to follow a lot of labour laws, either.

9. So they got a tax refund and gave it to the church?
OK I am only fooling but I think it tells me our Far right voters maybe on the crazy side.

12. You can be sure
they are laughing all the way to the bank.

I met a girl once who was Rev. Ike's secretary. She had no problem admitting that it was all about money. Ike felt that if people wanted to give him money and it made them feel better, why shouldn't he take it.

14. I realize I am bias, but my brother is a minister & to me he is
everything a true Christian leader should be. He came out strongly against the war. He has fought for gay rights and against bigotry. He works with people in prison and those with addictions. He is compassionate & accepting of people not matter who they are or what their religious beliefs are.

15. Your brother Rainbow, is doing what a christian
should be doing, we're talking of these hucksters who are more into fleecing the flock as it were.
If they were true followers of christ, every dime over what was needed to keep their ministry going would be returned to those in need, instead of buying jewelery, houses, cars, and clothes.

Hell, this is what the protestant reformation was about, the misuse and abuse of church resources, the next thing these guys will be openly selling is get out of hell free cards.
