My signs were vandalized Saturday night...inside my fenced yard! |
|
I had someone climb my picket fence and use a knife to cut the nylon electrical cables holding up a 4' x 4' sign. I made it and attached it to 2 metal fence posts back in September. It says "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED / NOT" and has the number of American Servicemen killed in Iraq (4 hooks and changed daily), 100,000 (?) Iraqi civilians, and coalition deaths at 140. It was surrounded by an Impeach Bush Now yard sign and a What Mandate? sign (both purchased). Well between 10:30PM and 6:00AM, someone came and took the impeach Bush sign and threw it down about 2 blocks away and cut down the large sign, but failed to get it over the fence. It was leaning against the inside of it, like maybe someone coming down the street interrupted them.
I filed a police report yesterday (just because I wanted it on record) and promptly put them all back up!

2. Sounds like they were great signs! |
|
And, good for you for putting them back up.
Now you want to set up a video camera and catch them when they return!

8. Or just get a "Under Video Survellance" sign |
|
And a "No Trespassing" sign as well.

Contact the prosecutor's office and make sure they get the police report. It really helps if the prosecutor is a Dem.

6. a dog in the yard would help, or a flock of geese - don't laugh |
|
geese are very protective and will attack and make a LOT of noise.
hang something from the back of the signs that will make a lot of clanking, etc. noise. let it be an early warning system.

but those things are nasty enough that one would do nicely. They have an added advantage of performing lawn care by eating grubs and dropping fertilizer.
Then again, I've often suggested rubbing poison ivy on the parts of the signs a Freeper is likely to grab to pull them out of the yard, but that would have to wait until spring. For now, maybe buzzing some habanero peppers in a blender with a little veggie oil would do. It wouldn't hurt their hands, but if they touch their faces or take a pee....OUCH!
Your fence would prevent the local kiddies from running into any traps.
Last fall, most of the people who posted pictures of sign thieves ended up with men in their 40s and 50s who certainly were old enough to know better.
Good luck and happy hunting.

4. now what you can do is to |
|
PROTECT those signs with poison ivy - I read of an instance during the campaign where a democrat repeatedly had her signs vandalized. She finally smeared the signs with poison ivy - !!!

5. Aye, Poison Ivy is good. Or you can tar them. |

Though depending on the quality of your lawn, you may not want to take that route. What's great about tarring them, though, is that even if the vandals wear gloves, it's STILL a nasty mess.

7. Motion activated anti-deer H2O blaster |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 11:48 AM by CottonBear
I saw this on a thread about yard sign vandalism back in October 2004. When movement is detected a big blast of water (like an impact sprinkler head) is unleashed on the intruder. A motion activated spotlight would also be a good idea. You could even add a motion activated alarm for triple protection. edit: links: < http://www.coolgadget.net/scarecrow.htmlk:> < http://www.sprinklerwarehouse.com/shop3/media/scarecrowcrreview.htm>

9. Better yet, get a cheap camera |
|
and hook it up to your VCR.
Point it at the sign, giving enough room visually to see anyone coming up to it.
When caught, make sure you are awarded damages . . . Trespassing, vandalism, terrorism!!!!!!
