From the paper from back where I grew up:
http://www.rherald.com/News/2005/0112/Letters/l07.htmlImmoral Iraq War Must Be Ended
The war in Iraq is absolutely immoral. We should all do all we can to end it now. We know there was no basis in fact or truth for starting the war. We know there is no basis for the war’s continuation.
At best, our invasion of Iraq was the product of fantasy-driven faulty analysis of defective intelligence. The war is a "wished for war" in that the desire for war overrode the lack of reason for war.
At worst, the war is the result of deception and lies by the Administration in its intense desire to remake the Middle East through military action.
In either case, there was never any basis in fact or truth for the war. There were no weapons of mass destruction, no threat or even possibility of attack by Iraq, no ability of Iraq’s to harm the United States, no link between Iraq and September 11th. Iraq was a crippled, hollow dictatorship when we launched our war.
There is no reason to continue the war. There is no justification to continue the death watch in Iraq. We are presently in Iraq because we invaded Iraq. The war goes on only because we started it in the first place. The only justification for continuing the war is the war itself.
If we pull out now, will not Iraq fall into chaos? I see chaos and carnage now with us present. Our continued presence is not the answer to chaos. It is part of the cause.
If we pull out now, will not those who have died died in vain? This question can never be the reason to continue killing. In truth, because there has never been a reason for the war or a cause which can survive the light of day, there has never been a reason for our young to die in Iraq. To end the killing would be to truly respect and honor the lives both of the dead and of the living.
If we pull out won’t we be abandoning our allies? The "Coalition Forces" label is deception and spin at its cynical worst. There are no allies in the sense of World War II or even the First Gulf War. If we leave, Britain will leave and the eclectic collection of small helpmates will also quickly leave. No ally will be left high and dry if we leave Iraq. And if there are Iraqis who will be in danger if we pull out, then we should take them all with us.
If we leave won’t we be admitting we made a colossal mistake? Yes, we will be doing exactly that. What better thing could we do than to be honest with ourselves and with the rest of the world?
The war in Iraq is nothing but a devastating, immoral killing exercise and body count. It should end now. We should all do all we can to end it now.
