Bush requests 80 BILLION $$$$$$ for Iraq operations
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 04:50 PM by Bluebear
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration plans to announce as early as Tuesday that it will seek about $80 billion in new funding for military operations this year in Iraq and Afghanistan, administration and congressional sources said on Monday.

The new supplemental budget request would come on top of the $25 billion in emergency spending already approved for the current fiscal year, pushing total 2005 funding for military operations and equipment close to a record $105 billion....

White House officials declined to comment on the size of the package or when it would be unveiled. But administration and congressional sources said they expected a White House announcement as early as Tuesday.

2. A few days ago,
Didn't Sisstani (sp) sat that they were going to ask the Americans to leave right after the election?

So, I guess that if they do, and we stay, what was the point of holding elections.......

6. They wont.
The US will not let anyone win power in this election who wont play ball.

Im sure they can find some way of staging something that resembles it that allows the US to keep troops there.

8. The idea that the US would roll dice in an election is absurd.
These people arent about to risk losing something theyve all worked so hard on in an election that they set up for the purposes of garnering legitimacy for an Iraq that is economically subservient to the US.

11. Oh, wonderful...
I can starve to death in my unheated home after Social Security and Medicare are bankrupt, but at least I can do it in safety.I certainly wouldn't want to worry about dying with "terra" lurking behind every corner and under my bed.

13. As long as he has his 51% "Man Date" this is our new reality
9/11 changed everything, that I agree with. So many people are willing to believe anything now to be "safe".

14. And during the Rice questioning, Dem senators said they would approve it
They said Bush will soon be putting forth a military budget for Iraq and that they would vote for it. Just jumping on the defense money train I see.

18. So far....
$75 billion supplemental
$87 billion supplemental
$25 billion supplemental
$80 billion supplemental

$267 billion in "supplemental" funding.
So what are they using the $440 billion War Dept. budget for? War expenditures should come out of the War Dept. budget.
And why can they find $267 billion at the drop of a hat for war, but they can't extend unemployment for 13 weeks?
