You can never be 100% sure, but there are artifacts when manipulation takes place (different from compression artifacts) usually due to the fact that those most willing to doctor a photo are not professionals, so the skillz are substandard and can be spotted readily by a professional.

Not to get real long winded, but there are many indicators of authenticity: for one, there are a crapload of stickers, and they are all lit consistently with the environment, and consistently at the same level of blur/sharpness. for someone to accomplish this, even a professional, would be a lot more trouble than its worth. Further note there are a couple of stickers that wrap around the contours of the bumper and car, that continue to be consistently distorted and lit. If you've never tried to do this, let me tell you, its a tedious nightmare to do well.

I could nitpick the rest of them, but there's a big overridding logical factor: if it were to be manipulated, the artist would have made more sure the stickers were legible, since that would be the point. Many stickers are barely legible, one asking for a boycott of hollywood is only partially legible, so why would you fake something and make it hard to read?

Look at the bottom left bumper sticker, and you notice that he was rear ended, there is a slight dent in the bumper, and it looks like that happened with the bumper sticker on it, there is a tear there. Also, most of the bumper stickers are on the truck imperfectly, noting the wrinkles and folds. But at the same time they follow the contours of the truck and the lighting as if they were actually on it, not added in by computer.

that they are real, for example, the top red and white ones are "whited out" a little bit, given the lighting in the overall picture, this is consistant with have the sun directly beat down on them. Also the lower left bumper sticker, on the top edge it is lighter than the rest of the sticker, this is consistant with the lighting again. Also, all the wrinkles and folds in all the bumperstickers are consistant with the lighting. The last example is the bumper sticker above the left bottom one, it is crooked and overhangs the indentation of the tailgate, if you look at it closely, it looks like whoever put the bumpersticker on that the angle caused part of it to fold under the rest while the last corner straddles the indentation.

Although I can tell some of these have been added via photoshop, I've actually seen people with similar stickers around our area. (Which is very rural GOP)
What gets me is they act like some terrorists are actually going to see their bumper stickers. I see "piss on Osama" stickers and I wonder if they actually think Osama bin Laden is hiding out in Banning, California.
