Why doesn't SNL ever lampoon Laura Bush? |
|
God knows they made fun of Hillary, so why not Laura?
It would be easy enough with her window curtain clothes, her vacant drugged out smile. She should be ripe for the picking.
What gives?

5. SNL hasn't been really edgy or funny in 30 years |
|
Although there have been a few bright stars over the last few decades (Dana Carvey, Will Ferrell), most of the program has been corporate-approved shite for the sheeple.

6. She never does anything for more than 5 seconds |

It wouldn't be a very long skit.
The times someone has done her - she's been all background puff.

8. It would probably be harder to do than you realize... |
|
...the whole thing about her persona is that she has no persona. How do you lampoon someone with zero personality? Just having them standing with a frozen smile and reading from a children's book in a creepy singsong may be a start, but it's not really enough to make her the center of full-fledged sketches.
There actually has to be something to someone that can be grabbed a hold of, but she too insubstantial to have any quirks. She's a non-entity. It's easy to do a funny impression of Robert DeNiro or Marlon Brando, but who can do an impression of Tom Cruise?

14. Did you think it was a problem when they attacked Hillary? |
|
I mean, I know lots of women and moderates who love Hillary. Why do you suppose she is an open target but lampooning Laura would be a "problem"

How is a lampoon portrayal on a comedy show (putatively) by definition an "attack?" Is it an "attack" when Dave Chappelle does his Rick James impression? When South Park has fun with Barbra Streisand?
No, "moderates" wouldn't be turned off, nor normal women. Only extreme wingnuts who feel nothing but fanaticism toward their "sacred idol" (and, what's more, who feel that the rest of us must share their extremism and fanaticism) would be offended at anything that poked a little fun at a public figure and her relationship/appearance to that public.

Laura Bush is an utter, absolute zero. Off the top of my head, I can't even remember what her voice sounds like. There's not really much comedy material there, other than having a skit where she does nothing but sit on a couch popping Xanax and smiling that freaky, frozen smile of hers.

18. What can you make fun of? |
|
She doesn't do anything. She doesn't say anything. She apparently has no opinions or ambitions. Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, and Hillary were easy targets for parody because they had personalities and objectives. As someone else said, I'm not even sure I know what Laura's voice sounds like.
