Ok someone get me a tinfoil hat. |
|
My wife likes to watch "Trading Spouses" on FOX. That pretty much means I'm watching also or reading blogs. Anyway, I have noticed that the program seems to pick overly zealous "A" personalitied liberals. People who have some issues. Like the hardcore Vegan or the anal retentive house keeper who also doesn't like Bush. At the same time These people are paired off with likable koolaid drinkers. Has anyone else noticed or do I need to take off the Hat???

1. You're not the only one who noticed this. |
|
The liberal is ALWAYS the ultra-uppity freak with major issues. The conservative is happy-go-lucky, might be a little loose with the discipline, but overall an ordinary person.
If you get a hat, get one for me, too.

11. Except for Desperate Housewives' "Bree" |
|
Who is a self-described anal-control freak and perfectionist.
And last show she described how she met and fell in love with her husband after talking all night about guns, death penalty and other issues dear to Republicans.

It's the whole point of the show.
You know they dont' pick these couples randomly?
They want a conflict so that it makes more interesting viewing.
On Edit: after reading post 1, I understand the point. They use a stereotype about liberals that is always unflattering (their priorities aren't the big picture progressive value system, but a single issue that sounds crazy and seems incompatible with other parts of the progressive value system).
OK. Well, it's Fox.

5. Just thinking about Lakoff here. |
|
Lakoff says Liberals tend to be nurturant parents, and conservatives tend to be strict fathers.
So, if all the liberals are anal and strick and all the conservatives are laid back, Fox might be actively trying to undermine the strict vs nurturant dichotomy.

10. Speaking from experience, conservative parents tend to be |
|
strict and liberal parents tend to be relaxed, so if FOX always have it reversed -- ie, if they're defying the law of averages -- the only explanation would be that they're going out of their way to present liberals and conservatives that way.

|
have got to be brainwshed. All those pundits are practically laughing when they spew their disinformation and bias. Its so deliberate and ridiculous and yet people think they are geting the truth.

6. Haven't seen much of that show, |
|
but I do remember being surprised by the previews for the vegan who was a slob vs the "normal", clean housewife. They must have hunted long and hard for that vegan. Somebody who puts that much care and thought into the food they buy and prepare for their family will probably also put a lot of time and effort into keeping their house non-toxic and nurturing.

7. Did you notice also that they cut from the |
|
obsessive cleaning lady swatting flies, right to her scolding the little freeper kid for killing worms?
My lingering question with that show is how can those people sign on to do the show in exchange for $50,000 and then, according to the show itself, the other person tells them how to spend their money. It seems like whatever is in the contract would have to spell out how payment is to be received by them. Plus anyone going on this show now would know that is the deal. I honestly doubt that the families have to abide by the way the money is designated.

15. The only Fox I watch is Simpsons, Malcom in the Middle, and |
|
Arrested Development. Can't seem to see a particular political bias in any of these, except the Simpsons, which seems to skewer everything, especially our corporate commercial culture. Or am I missing something?

and I have to admit my antennae raised a bit for the what I thought was the Obvious ole 'liberal ideas are bad bad bad, thot by bad people'.
The blond jerk dad screaming about his son-in-law in Iraq protecting Mia's freedom... Shit, I'll bet SHE had something to say about that one that was edited out.
I was very disgusted. I Rarely watch crap shows like this but lucky me had to see This one.
