R.wing smear machine goes after Democratic California Secretary of State

1. Bob, do you have information that this is truly a RW smear machine?

There is a discussion going on about this and I am looking for any information that might counter such a "smear".

One thing is clear, if they get Shelley to resign, Schwarzenegger will appoint someone, which of course makes it all the more likely this is a smear machine.

The people who went after him are not right wing operatives. The guy is a nightmare and should have been out long ago.

3. I regretfully agree...

...I have a very progressive friend in the SofS office who knows all about him. It's too bad. I hoped he would rein himself in because I supported him in the primary--he had the best progressive record in terms of voting record. His deputy should take over--she's well respected. No Republican need be confirmed by the state senate. There will be no political fallout from keeping the deputy on the job.

4. This has RW smear written all over it. Remember Rose Bird? Shelley stood

up to Diebold last year, and the Rs hate Shelley for that and because he's a D. If the RW isn't behind this then who the hell is? Come on, the RW operates exactly in this mode.
