Would others be interested in a Letters to the Editor DU Group? |
|
I belong to a regional mailing list that shares ideas for LTTEs (Letters To The Editor) for various progressive causes. It's very helpful in finding issues that need letters, talking points for such letters, etc. We also share publication dates for our letters when they are published.
Are there other DU'ers who'd be interested in a DU Group for this purpose? If so, please reply to this thread. There'd have to be at least 10 others interested to create the new group.

2. I think we need a consolidated debate group |
|
One that merges LTTEs, debunked emails, framing, and tactics that work in differing argument environments (message board, email, face to face, phone, etc.)

That's a broader scope than just LTTEs.
One of the reasons we've been losing out on framing the debate is because we don't present a simple, consolidated message. The Repugs are miles ahead of us on that one. This kind of thing helps.

Yes please.
For the last couple of months I have been submitting many LTTEs. My writing skills are not great but I figure if a paper gets many LTTEs on a particular subject, they will pick that subject to run in the paper. So even if my letter is not chosen, my submission helped in getting a particular topic picked.
The Chicago Sun-Times called me last Friday and said they are interested in my last LTTE to them and may run in in the next week or so. That is kinda nice.

5. I hate to kick my own thread |
|
(seems such an ego-trip), but I need to keep this up top to see if I can get 10 people interested before this thread dies.

I would love an area to get ideas for talking points for Letters to the editor and links to articles to respond to. I only read a couple of papers a day and miss many articles that should be responded to. I didn't use the mediacorps area at the johnkerry.com site, but thought it was a great idea.
I'm new here so this may already exist, but if not, I'd also like to see an area where general talking points are set up per issue. Framing is critical. We need a DemocratSpeak area if there is not already one.

I still need to get a couple other DU'ers interested in this before I can propose the group.

I can write with some success and I can edit, too. (Toot, toot, goes my own horn... it is so strange to write things like that!)
