Conservatives really are acting like Nazis when it comes to Gays.
I usually refrain from making Nazi comparisons, as they're somewhat trite and usually more than a little over the top. However, emboldened by the most far right President in U.S., the way that conservatives want to treat gays is starting to mirror the way that Nazi Germany treated Jews.

In the past year, Conservatives have made efforts to:

Codify anti-gay discrimination into the U.S. Constitution

Ban library books with gay characters

Ban school textbooks that mention gay people

Attack cartoon characters that they view as insufficiently heterosexual.

Now, I know some of you might think this comparison is over the top. After all, the conservatives aren't advocating exterminating gays.

My response to that though is that Hitler sending Jews to concetration camps was called the "final solution." It took Germany a while to reach that point.

And considering the fact that the connies don't even attempt to hide their visceral hatred for gay people anymore, do you really think them incapable of doing something similar?

1. They would like to criminalize homosexuality
And probably apply capital punishment to the "crime." I don't know about camps, though--I think the effect would just be to push Gays pretty deep underground (although I imagine most of open gay leaders would be executed for this "crime.")

I also think they realize (correctly in my opinion) that this is pretty much their last chance to get this or anything close to this--the coming of a new generation will make this sort of crack down largely impossible.

4. I gave a donation to PFLAG after the election, and today I received
my membership card in the mail. I am honored to be a card-carrying member of PLFAG.

3. Actually, they're trying to treat gays the way Nazis treated gays
remember the pink triangles - the Nazis sent gays to death camps too.

7. Exhibit on Nazi persecution of gays
Last weekend I visited the opening of a traveling exhibit here in Kansas City on the Nazi persecution of gays. Time after time it hit me how similar the views of the radical right was to that of the Nazis.

There were, however, two major differences between then and now:

1. The Nazis didn't hide their hatred behind religion as the religious right does. Instead, they made it a point of national pride to root out any person that did not add to the "pure" Aryan race. They viewed homosexuality as a disease that could affect all those perfect Aryan men, rather than as a moral/religious issue.

2. The Nazis used eugenics to justify their hatred. Even as odious as the concept of selective breeding and building a "master race" is to us today, their ideas were based in "science" (or more accurately, psuedo-science) instead of religion.
