Anybody hear Novak claim Johnny Carson was a Republican
on Crossfire? Right after the tribute? I thought it was disgusting that he take that opportunity to politicize his death. Carville said noone knew what Carson was and why did it matter? I thought he was Dem or Independent. He seemed to lean Dem.

23. a flaming LIBERAL
and i remember reading an article a year or two ago with him commenting on the current criminal administration and saying how easy it must be for comic writers today... ya just need to look at the daily shows success to understand how much he understood america and hated the neoCONs.

i heard that comment on AAR, as well.

:hi:

peace

2. Novak is senile. Carson helped to bring down Nixon
Carson was probably a liberal. He did much to help out young struggling actors and comedians - something a liberal would do.

5. And, according to NBC news tonight
he put a lot of money into his hometown of Norfolk, Nebraska. Including a school auditorium, library, and a cancer center named for his parents.

3. Old time republicans were different
I don't know what Novak was referring to but even if Johnny had been a Repub at some point, you have to remember in earlier generations, the Repubs were not the crazies they are now. You may have disagreed with them but they were not the total fruit cakes who believe the end of the world is near or that other nonsense.

7. I forgot about that. Quayle was a comedian's dream come true
The VP that can't spell potato and forgets that Hawaii is part of the USA.

Carson probably thought Bush was just a dimmer version of Quayle.

13. actually if you
went to the Drudge Report (I know i shouldnt have), the day he died, Drudge put a flashback of comments he made including that the superbowel after 9/11 was too patriotic and made a comment about Bush and Ken Lay of Enron being buddies before the company collapse. hardly a conservative.

I don't think so. Novak has him confused with Frank Sinatra.

27. Not after RFK forced him to testify about his mob connections
After that he supported Nixon and Reagan to pay him back. He also performed at a state dinner in the Nixon White House in 1973, just about when things turned bad for Nixon.

29. Frank switched around '69 or '70; he hosted Reagan's inaugural ball
He campaigned for Humphrey in '68 but he was becoming pretty disgusted with the Summer of Love/protesting stuff. Then after it ended with Mia, he was pretty much sick of all the youth culture. He was a Nixon supporter in '72. By the time Reagan ran in '80, he was a big-time Republican.

22. He was an entertainer and should be judged primarily
on those grounds, and secondarily by any political message he espoused.

I don't believe Carson advocated publically for any political cause, therefore he should be judged soley as an entertainer.

In Carson's case, it shouldn't matter to anyone what his political affiliation was.

When Joe Connison was on Al Franken not long ago, he said that everyone he knows refers to Novak by the nickname of "Nofacts".

:D Sounds appropriate to me!
