My letter to Lieberman
"Mr. Lieberman,
After listening to your remarks today, praising C. Rice, I think it would be appropriate if you switched parties to Republican at this time. You don't, and have not represented the Democratic Party. Fall in the ranks with Zell Miller, the Democrats don't need someone like you in our party."

3. Amazing
how he kept his views hidden. I'm not anti-semtic, but it's all about Isreal to him.

2. One issue does not a republican make
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 10:39 PM by Catch22Dem
Look at where Lieberman has stood on the issues over the past two decades. True, this Iraq/Globalization issue is a MAJOR disappointment...ENORMOUS, but he's not all bad. Find me a republican who has done as much for civil rights.

ON EDIT: While I might play devil's advocate and point out some of his better points, I don't really give a shit if he stays or goes.

12. I especially like his blacklist he and Lynn Cheney made of progressive
college professors. Supporting Rice who lied under oathe and lied us into a war is not just "an issue"

Do you not understand that their failure to stand up to this and his undying support of the illegal invasion of Iraq are CRIMES in the eyes of the rest of the world?

Who gives a shit about his previous record...this is CRITICAL. He has failed his country. He has betrayed us.

4. You said it nicer than I did
I told him to get out of the party, he does not belong since he supports invasions, illegal occupations and deceiving the public.

6. I do hope he has a primary challenger
But if Lieberman is renominated, I must support his reelection. He is at least a reliable Democratic vote on domestic issues.

7. That is true, but there is no harm in calling him on
his bad foreign policy. Especially when the Democratic Senators are finally taking a stance.

9. raysr, YOU ROCK. My comment on Lieberman
Lieberman is a traitor to the Democratic Party.

(1) He rises sanctimoniously to chastise Clinton for lack of ethics in the l'affaire Lewinsky. What brazen hypocrisy! At the same time, he was watering down and eliminating regulatory oversight for accountants and consulting firms which resulted in Enron, WorldCom, and many other scandals perpetrated by his large contributors, the financial consulting firms. Clinton's ethical lapse, in the particular case, was limited to his family and playmate. Lieberman's crass political advocacy for the financial consulting firms ruined companies, employees, retirement accounts, and communities all over America.
(2) He concedes the election even before there is reason to in 2000. The happy "surrender monkey" went on television and virtually capitulated several times while there were real questions about which direction the election would take. This followed a silly, self-indulgent, ineffectual campaign for Vice President.
(3) Just today he betrayed his Senate Democrats by supporting the most incompetent and damaging member of the Bush administration other than Chaney and Rumsfeld. The man has no judgment.

Lieberman needs to be opposed in the CT primary and opposed vigorously.

10. Lieberman Is No DINO
2003 Interest Group Ratings (from www.vote-smart.org):

NARAL - 100%
Humane Society - 100%
Leadership Conference on Civil Rights - 91%
National Education Association - 88%
Sierra Club - 100%
Business And Professional Women USA - 100%
Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence - 90%
American Public Health Association - 100%
AFL-CIO - 100%
American Bar Association - 100%

I am no big fan of Lieberman. Maybe he is a hawk and seems a little too willing to compromise civil liberties in the name of security. But that alone does not make him a DINO.

Maybe he was being sweet to her because he was so upset some of the other Democrats were grilling her. I disagree with him doing that, but it seems in keeping with his personality as much as his hawkish politics. The funny thing about Lieberman, he looks like such a geek, wimp, loser, etc, but I think he's a bit of a flirt, not in a sleazy way, but in a more courtly manner. I bet if it was a guy, Lieberman would have been a little tougher, not much, but a little. And I think he will fight harder against judicial nominees because those are for life, but we have some (Democrats and Republicans) who feel the confirmation process for the cabinet is a courtesy.

I know you are angry at him about this, but I don't think we need to drive people out of our party unless they are really are voting with Republicans more than Democrats on a range of issues dear to our hearts.

11. No one here is calling him a DINO, just that he abandoned
a rare effort on the part of some of our Democratic senators in stating our beliefs.

Our emails will not chase Lieberman out of the party. We don't have that kind of power. Hopefully next time he will remember our actions today before lining up in support of another BushCo policy.

13. He Would Better Remember Them...
If we stated them coolly and rationally.
He's isn't going to respond to insults telling him to get out.

He's Jewish, maybe he'll respond better to
"I'm so disappointed...it hurts, etc."

Never underestimate the power of guilt.
