4. probably because they were all 1ID, nearly home from the deployment |

Only had two or three more weeks left. It's a real shame. Think of their families, who have been waiting a year for their return.

5. I have to admit, even though I'm totally against |
|
the war in Iraq, at least I can admit the US Army have conducted themselves better than the Marines in Iraq. It was the Marines that provoked the fighting in Fallujah April 2004 and Najaf August 2004, as soon as they took over occupation duties from the more cautious and politically-aware army. The marines are always spoiling for a fight and thinking they're heroes etc...

6. No, The Orders Came From Above.... |

Key General Criticizes April Attack In Fallujah Abrupt Withdrawal Called Vacillationhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A16309-2004Sep12?language=printerFALLUJAH, Iraq, Sept. 12 -- The outgoing U.S. Marine Corps general in charge of western Iraq said Sunday he opposed a Marine assault on militants in the volatile city of Fallujah in April... ...on March 31 he was confronted in Fallujah with the killing of four U.S. security contractors, whose bodies were mutilated or burned by a celebrating mob. Conway said he resisted calls for revenge, and instead advocated targeted operations and continued engagement with municipal leaders.
"We felt like we had a method that we wanted to apply to Fallujah: that we ought to probably let the situation settle before we appeared to be attacking out of revenge," he said in an interview...
He would not say where the order to attack originated, only that he received an order from his superior at the time, Army Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, the overall commander of U.S. forces in Iraq. Some senior U.S. officials in Iraq have said the command originated in the White House. 7. I'm absolutely aware of this story |
|
The statement I made in my post stands. The marines were gun-ho from day one wherever they went and provoked fighting. The army commanders were more careful and stayed clear of towns more often. When the marines arrived in both Fallujah and Najaf, they got straight into the faces of Iraqis and pissed people off. The trouble in Fallujah actually started in February when the marines arrived there.
