So when is Air America coming to Chicago? |
|
Now that Air America will be back on the air in LA on February 3rd, it's time to keep the heat on AA to get back into the Chicago market. A month after AA's debut the Chicago station folded up due to financial problems.
Other ripe liberal cities that are missing AA include Cleveland, Las Vegas, Missoula Montana, Cedar Rapids Iowa, Austin, Nashville and Pittsburgh. Having stations in Iowa and New Hampshire in time for the Democratic caucus and primary campaigns would be a good move. The Democratic candidates would be clamoring to get airtime. I'm sure there are many more I could mention, but I think we should make it a goal to have AA in every media market in the country by the start of the 2008 campaign.

I was just looking into this over the weekend because I had heard it was coming back to LA, but I couldn't find anywhere that it's coming back to Chicago anytime soon. :(
I have actually considered getting satellite radio for the car *just* so I could listen to AAR on the way to and from work. I especially miss Randi on the drive home!

3. GOAL: every radio by july 4, '06 |
|
we surely need it everywhere long before the 'O8 campaign. It takes time to deprogram folks raised with 2 hi school courses of RW ideas, with RW parents, a RW preacher, and hometown monopoly RW paper and wall-to-wall Hate Radio.
That describes large parts of many states.
I say that we also need a bit of time before the Congressional campaigns, so july would give us that lead time. Not much, but we must be realistic .. it will take time to build AAR, even with what i recommend:
MASSIVE EXPANSION OF AAR
with the fundraising power of DNC, the DISAPPEARING AFLCIO, moveon.org and truemajority.org.
either moveon .. or was it truemajority.. claimed that things have changed because they can now match the GOP with small online donations. Well, let's use that new power to fix our eternal weakness.. NO VOICE.
A PARTY WITH NO VOICE IS DOOMED.
Hate Radio Clear Channel has 12OO stations. AAR has 40.
People cant even define what "progressive taxes" means. Let's get a voice.
Demand your DNC member commit to massive expansion of AAR.
Or a DNC clone of it, in noncompeting areas.

4. We should aim at battleground states, even if no ad revenue |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 07:10 AM by oscar111
that's where the subsidies from DNC and the disappearing AFLCIO come in.
I read here that "the original plan was to buy stations". Dust off that plan, and buy in the battleground states.
We need to win elections. Not create a cash cow.
Radio pays for itself at election time.
If some dont want to subsidize AAR, create a clone of it for new cities, and subsidize that clone.
Get a voice in the battleground states, NOW, or keep losing elections.
Get a voice and start winning. Start getting rid of votetheft machines, and get paper ballots hand counted. That will take persuasion from AAR, .. it will not be heard on MSM.
Should have been done in 1920.

8. 1690??? For Now Tune in 1530AM At Night |
|
From insiders, Cheap Channel is slowly rolling "Progressive Talk" into the larger markets, but are only doing so currently on larger signals that can generate good ratings and revenues.
While Chicago has 5 huge 50,000 stations, there aren't many smaller full-market AM stations that AAR does well on. Cheap Channel owns two rather weak AM signals...both on the far south side that have never performed well. Of the two, 1690 is the best...covering most the city during the day, but tough to hear at night. The problem, I've heard is the station has contracts with Larry Lujack and Tommy Edwards and wants to let those deals run out before they dump the oldies format that's currently playing. This is supposed to happen in the spring.
Right now I pull the network in great via WSAI in Cincinatti at 1530AM. They come in after sunset and has Randi Rhodes on during the evening.
