Poll question: Truth in advertising?

I was taken aback to see this banner advertisement at the top of AlJazeera's web page when viewing the story regarding the helicopter crash that killed 31 Marines.

It's a flash animation, and this is the "punchline." Personally, I regard it as tasteless, exploitative, and insensitive.

What do you think?

Remember ... it was the banner ad on Aljazeera's website. Who's their target audience?

Didn't Saddam's "currency exchange" of dollars to euros get him in trouble? :silly:

There's something really bizarre about this.

3. Par for the course for the advertising industry...
I regard it as tasteless, exploitative, and insensitive.

You've just summarized my feelings for the advertising industry in general. NOTHING is too low for them in pursuit of the almighty dollar.

Ever see the movie The Corporation? There's a part in it where a young woman advertising executive is describing how she helped develop advertising techniques to exploit the "nag factor" in children. When she mused about people who asked her whether or not she thought targeting and manipulating children was moral or ethical -- she laughed, shrugged her shoulders, and basically said, "I don't care. It's not my job to be moral or ethical. My job is to try and make a profit for my clients."

The entire industry should just go kill themselves. Shoot themselves, hang themselves, run in front of oncoming busses. I really don't care. And I'm not really exaggerating my feeling for the advertising industry here. I really feel this way about them. They are a scourge on society.
