Hell, Iraqis "voted" when Saddam was in control! |
|
So "voting" is success? Even when people vote for evil people?

1. You mean elections can be used to try and legitimize criminal gov'ts? |
|
I thought voting meant democracy and democracy was good.

2. I guess the logic goes something like this |
|
No honest patriotic Iraqi would participate in this election, so anybody up for election is doubtless a blackhearted scoundral. Hence any election in which we are around will be an unjust unfair election. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

3. Just Before The Invasion |
|
I remember there was an election where Saddam won 99.8% of the votes...Leno & Letterman went to town with jokes about that. From what I rememer reading at the time, most of the eletion was for provincial and local administrators...those who got chased when we invaded and led to the total breakdown on the entire civil and social order of the country.
What burns me is there's a great model of how an election like this should be held...Kosovo. If we assume that the purpose of this invasion was to rid Iraq of an evil dictator, we used the same justification in Kosovo, then without losing an American soldier, forced Milosevic out and then with a UNITED NATIONS force, helped conduct open and free election. Five years later and who hears of Kosovo or Bosnia anyore?
Oh, that's right, they didn't have oil.
