Seymour Hersh: All of Iraq is now a free fire zone...
The transcript is not up yet, but now all of Iraq is now a "free-fire" zone and an extensive bombing campaign has been going on in secret for months. I heard it on DemocracyNow this morning. This little tidbit is buried in a lengthy presentation. Here's the link:

http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/01/26/1450204

The whole presentation by Hersh is worth listening to, but this latest revelation had my jaw drop.. :wow:

32. His information is akin to a "natural disaster" because,...
,...these power-mongers are rolling over human lives with NO REGARD WHATSOEVER to whether or not they are destroying the innocent along with the guilty.

They,...are playing "GOD".

2. Did you see SH on the Daily Show last night? GREAT!
I don't know if they do it everywhere, but here, our cable broadcasts the current day's show at 11PM and the previous day's show at 11:30PM.

Try to catch it if you missed it last night. Sy was great, and so was Jon as usual.

5. On Nightline last night, Peter Jennings (in Baghdad) said that reporters..
... could not move around in Iraq. They are using Iraqi stringers to get their stories

Seems that Jennings agrees with Hersh.

6. Not that the reporters have a clue about reporting election fraud
but if they can't move around the country and report the stuffing of ballot boxes and other crimes in the voting process, why would anyone pay one iota of attention to the upcoming "vote" absurdity in Iraq?

17. Here's the paragraph that got me...
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 03:15 PM by Junkdrawer
.....

On the other hand, the facts -- there are some facts. We can’t win this war. We can do what he's doing. We can bomb them into the stone ages. Here's the other horrifying, sort of spectacular fact that we don't really appreciate. Since we installed our puppet government, this man, Allawi, who was a member of the Mukabarat, the secret police of Saddam, long before he became a critic, and is basically Saddam-lite. Before we installed him, since we have installed him on June 28, July, August, September, October, November, every month, one thing happened: the number of sorties, bombing raids by one plane, and the number of tonnage dropped has grown exponentially each month. We are systematically bombing that country. There are no embedded journalists at Doha, the Air Force base I think we’re operating out of. No embedded journalists at the aircraft carrier, Harry Truman. That's the aircraft carrier that I think is doing many of the operational fights. There’s no air defense, It's simply a turkey shoot. They come and hit what they want. We know nothing. We don't ask. We're not told. We know nothing about the extent of bombing. So if they're going to carry out an election and if they're going to succeed, bombing is going to be key to it, which means that what happened in Fallujah, essentially Iraq -- some of you remember Vietnam -- Iraq is being turn into a “free-fire zone” right in front of us. Hit everything, kill everything. I have a friend in the Air Force, a Colonel, who had the awful task of being an urban bombing planner, planning urban bombing, to make urban bombing be as unobtrusive as possible. I think it was three weeks ago today, three weeks ago Sunday after Fallujah I called him at home. I'm one of the people -- I don't call people at work. I call them at home, and he has one of those caller I.D.’s, and he picked up the phone and he said, “Welcome to Stalingrad.” We know what we're doing. This is deliberate. It's being done. They're not telling us. They're not talking about it.

16. I have a question about this... the economy?
Hersh states that the economy is going to go south in a big way. He even says at the end to pull your money out of stocks and "buy property in italy".

How serious do you think he is about this? Do you take this warning seriously? He says its about the foreign financed debt (2 billion per day I think he said) and creditors pulling out and using euros to buy oil instead of dollars. He also said that europe could possibly unite against us in this.

Does anyone have some more info on this?

22. I take it seriously...we are on the Titanic.
I have been watching all of this for a
long time, and I believe that we are in for
some REALLY bad times.
We are looking into transferring ALL of our
assets out of anything connected to the dollar.
With Bush stomping around the planet
a house in Italy sounds like a really good plan.
We may have a powerful military, but
the rest of the world can and I believe will.
intervene on our hegemonic crusade economically.
They have no choice. We have to be stopped
and we will, financially.
Of course the elite will be fine, they have
already transferred their wealth- and they don't
particularly care what happens to the rest of us.
They have no intention of turning back and thus the
outcome can only be the complete destruction
of our currency.
Hang on cause the ride is going to be terrifying.

31. Your post seriously darkens all my light spaces.
I am sure you intend to just,...deliver "reality".

But, for those of us who HAVE far less "freedom" to remove ourselves from such circumstances than others (that would include me), your post is way below discouraging.

You make my heart hurt,...more.

Our poor children.

My poor son.

Did you see yesterday the article about China saying the US dollar is no longer a stable currency?

But read again what Sy said, about stocks and property and Europe not tolerating us much longer (Sy jumps around when he free-speeches) and think about who's Nazi Germany now.

I wonder how many people notice that you haven't seen that kind of thing on TV in a LONG time, and I wonder how many people ask themselves why?

Seymour is a true patriot.
I DARE one of the talking heads to have him
on their shows.
He'd wipe the floor with them.
Course it will never happen since
they are basically cowardly bullies.

23. I'll send it to the sanctimonious faux liberal
Aaron Brown aaron.brown@turner.com and see if he has what it takes.

I already know the answer but I'll send it anyway since he assures me he and he alone decides what goes on his show.

Thank God for people like Sy Hersh.

The great thing about the Truth is you recognize it when you Finally hear it.

In my opinion, their daily omission of truth
makes them responsible and therefore criminal.
Guilty of perpetuating treason against our people and country.

26. Sad and embarrassed for my country
Hard to believe that only four years ago we were the respected only remaining superpower. I can't believe that the media has, except for some brave exceptions, has glossed over everything. An acquaintance of ours just returned from overseas - mentioned that he claimed to be Canadian when asked. I didn't feel this bad about my country, as a college student in the Vietnam days.

36. Of course they are running mushy military stories right now.
They knew Jan 30 would be a blood bath. So about a month or two ago, they knew they had to put together the bullshit stories to keep the sheep from waking up.

I know YOU probably already know this, but I think it's important to note for the record: it is no accident that CNN is running this propaganda now. (And yesterday, and the day before) WHORES!
