DU is on par with Aryan Nation?
http://plaza.ufl.edu/slasher/extremists.htm

WARNING: Proceed at your own risk. This listing is not comprehensive by any means, but is a good representation of the largest and most influential of the organizations and the ideological undercurrents that influence their adherents. This page exists for reasons of intellectual curiosity only and are not representative of the views of the author. These sites are not necessarily violent in nature, but do advocate radical changes to, and/or the destruction of, the American way of life. Sites with asterisks mean that the website is currently down and possibly defunct.

You mean like not hogging one-third of Earth's resources for six percent of its population? Or no longer invading other countries on trumped-up excuses to get even more? Or not keeping millions without basic food or shelter in the most affluent society in history?

Those kind of "radical changes to the American way of life"?

27. Sure, I don't mind
International A.N.S.W.E.R. is a front group for the Stalinist World Worker's Party, which describes itself as "Marxist." In point of fact, the WWP enthusiastically supports the mass murdering, Stalinist regime of Kim Jung Il (which is perhaps the best example of a Stalinist regime remaining in the world ... the horrible and recent starvation of perhaps MILLIONS of North Koreans while the government continued to build its military is still a mystery to most of the world). Here is what the Washington Post's Michael Kelly wrote about A.N.S.W.E.R (link no longer available):

There is, increasingly, much that happens in the world that the Times feels its readers should be sheltered from knowing. The marches in Washington and San Francisco were chiefly sponsored, as was last October's antiwar march in Washington, by a group the Times chose to call in its only passing reference "the activist group International Answer."

International ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) is a front group for the communist Workers World Party. The Workers World Party is, literally, a Stalinist organization. It rose out of a split within the old Socialist Workers Party over the Soviet Union's 1956 invasion of Hungary -- the breakaway Workers World Party was all for the invasion. International ANSWER today unquestioningly supports any despotic regime that lays any claim to socialism, or simply to anti-Americanism. It supported the butchers of Beijing after the slaughter of Tiananmen Square. It supports Saddam Hussein and his Baathist torture-state. It supports the last official Stalinist state, North Korea, in the mass starvation of its citizens. It supported Slobodan Milosevic after the massacre at Srebrenica. It supports the mullahs of Iran, and the narco-gangsters of Colombia and the bus-bombers of Hamas.

. . .

There's more (much more) but I have to go out for a while.

33. This is interesting, all it took to get
democrats, ie liberals, to attack (if only to a small extent) people that are MORE liberal was to post this guys link. Now we have democrat moderates jabbing at the FURTHER left in an attempt to distance themselves from being considered Leftist or extreme. I'm not promoting any kind of political agenda, though I generally don't hide from my opinions. However, it seems to me that sometimes extreme times require extreme actions. So far I am nothing but a windbag to people that will listen, but I continue to feel that something has to really be DONE about the direction of this nation, and the world. Just don't know WHAT to DO.

I am sure SOME of the 9/11 theories around are a bit far fetched. IF you research, many of those theories are not so out there from a practical and logical standpoint.

I am a liberal and proud of it! I think this country needs more than just a new democrat for President (though that would be a start).

If anyone is listening, please point me to the liberal wing.

The time for moderation has quietly passed us by.

34. I have no objection to "extreme" views
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 01:56 PM by imenja
What bothers me is positions, extreme or moderate, that are not based on evidence. This is the case with some of the 9/11 arguments. If we don't use logic and evidence to come to political positions, what distinguishes us from the fringe right?

Further, there is nothing particularly leftist about deciding George Bush blew up the world trade center. I would be surprised if a number of right wing groups didn't adhere to that same theory. It has typically been the right that has seen government as responsible for all ills that beset us. Such ideas are hysteria, not informed critiques of capitalism or corporate domination. There is nothing leftist about them.

38. Now don't get me wrong...
I am not trying to focus on the events of 9/11 to make my point. I too believe in facts. I also believe in asking questions and uncovering secrets, which there are many of in this administration which seems to have little understanding of the concept of truth and openness needed in a government "of the people".

I simply discourage people from discarding theories (which by definition if it involves more than one person becomes conspiratorial), about any number of things, without first looking at the merits of any arguments and body of evidence.

47. My concerns regarding 9/11
have everything to do with:

1) Gaps and "adjustments" in timelines

2) Hush-hush supposed military exercises that were going on that day dealing with aircraft and including live flying by military aircraft and being run by Cheney (I refuse to show him any respect by using his title)

3) The utter failure of a system that was routine and well used in the past (remember the pro-golfer's plane that went off course just a year or so before 9/11)

4) WTC-7 being "pulled". IE demolitions. When did those get set up?

...and many other things that remain curiously unexplained and unanswered. My curiosity and skepticism are further piqued by the resistance the Administration showed in having any investigation, including attempts to prevent one, attempts to underfund it, and attempts to prevent information gathering. The 9/11 commission was a joke.

48. My sense . . .
is that the government is frighteningly incompetent. I believe Bush tried to prevent the 9/11 investigation because they know they blew it. They refused to make terrorism a priority. If you listened to some of the testimony given at the hearing (much of the testimony, not just the report is public record) one FBI official acknowledged than John Ashcroft had told him he didn't want to be bothered anymore with this "terrorism" stuff. Ashcroft had more important priorities: pornography. Examples of sheer incompetence in various government agencies is astounding.
I am always willing to examine new evidence and change my mind accordingly. I do so often. But until I see something persuasive, I am not going to fault George Bush for PLANNING 9/11. I do fault him for failing to heed warnings offered by Clinton administration officials and dropping the ball on preventing the attack. (Not to mention the war and just about everything else is has done since assuming office). Hopefully Freedom of Information Requests in future decades will shed more light on the subject. The CIA 9/11 report should also be interesting, that is if Bush ever allows it to be released. We will likely see it one day--even if it is 25 years from now--though certainly not soon enough.

fair enough response.:) I too look forward to the day when the CIA 9/11 report comes out, though I have become increasingly skeptical of that happening, or at least happening in an "unedited" version. I believe this administration is working towards limiting what can be acquired through FOIA. Their attempt at keeping even more information from the public.

59. Bush and FOIA
You're quite right that Bush is limiting access to government documents through FOIA. One of his very first actions as president was to increase the time necessary for documents to be released, not coincidentally corresponding with what would have been the release of records from his father's administration. Historians protested the measure, but to no success. As you know, this may well be the most secretive presidential administration in our nation's history.
I hope, however, that reason and support for open government will prevail in future administrations, particularly if the Democrats can gain power again.

41. Aryan Nation on 9/11
Two right wing comments on 9/11 bombings, sited on the website of the Southern Poverty Law Center

"August Kreis
Director of Information for the Aryan Nations*, Ulysses, Penn.

"May the WAR be started," Kreis wrote even before the World Trade Center towers had collapsed. "DEATH to His enemies, may the World Trade Center BURN TO THE GROUND!"

Elsewhere, Kreis claimed "4,000 Israelis" worked in the Center's two towers but none were killed or wounded in the attacks. He suggested that this was because of "hints from the Israeli General Security Apparatus," and he referred to "unannounced suspicions on American officials who wanted to know how the Israeli government learned about the incident before it occurred... ."

He added, "We can blame no others than ourselves for our problems due to the fact that we allow ... Satan's children, called jews today, to have dominion over our lives."

http://www.splcenter.org/intel/intelreport/article.jsp?pid=296

Another source: "Richard F. Masker
Self-described "conspiratologist", Hayden Lake, Idaho

"Our New World Order treasonous government for sure knew about the plans for the WTC attack several weeks in advance and the Zionists saw the opportunity they had been diligently waiting for. ... When the planes hit the building the Israeli Mossad operatives used radio controlled detonators to bring the building down... .

"No human being has the mental ability to comprehend the degree of abject hatred that the Jew is capable of displaying toward all other non-Jews."

Or like taking away civil liberties to make us "safe"?

Or for the first time in US history and in absolute violation of the Unites States Constitution making wars of aggression US policy?

Or perhaps they mean radical change to the American way of life such as inciting the entire world into hating us?

Enough said.

46. He lists ANSWER as neo-Stalinist
Is this in keeping with Christopher Hitchens argument that Saddam's was a Stalinist state and those who oppose the war likewise Stalinists? I wonder if Pat Buchanan considers himself a neo-Stalinist?

55. No Free Republic or Lucianne
Not as if those sites are host to murderous fantasies of random murder of Liberals at least once every 10 minutes somewhere on those boards.

On the other hand, it could just be an honest oversight.

But even then, to list DU in that company is insane, but to leave our Freepers and Luciannebots is nutty.

60. this is pure o'Really
anyone to the left of Holy Joe is an extremist bombthrower and is morally equivalent to a Nazi.

Got to give those bastards credit, there's more than one arrow in their quiver. If screaming hate don't work for you then maybe faux moderation will.....the old broad brush.

I find this disturbing and agree DU being on this list makes me uncomfortable. The Smirking Chimp is not on the list. All Hat No Cattle and several other sites. This is VERY DISTURBING !

63. I would take it as a compliment...
We were able to gain the attention of a college puke wanker, and now he makes a pathetic attempt at trying to effect our credibility, when in reality, our site probably gets 10,000x more hits per day. He's a fucking wanker, not worth sweating about.
