Senator McCain supports torture |
|
I called his office and asked if he was voting to confirm Alberto Gonzales. The woman said Yes, so I said, to get the record straight for the online blog that I am reporting to, that Senator McCain supports torture. She got really rattled and freaked. She yelled at me, NO, he does not support torture, he supports the President's nominee. I said that with the torture memo, and Gonzales' refusal to answer questions about torture and the way in which he answered the Judiciary Committee, a YES vote was a vot for torture and I would be sharing this with the blog.
She freaked, told me thanks for my views and hung up on me.

2. McCain did have "close contact" with torturers for some years. |
|
McCain was very sympathetic to the Vietcong and their "torturous" ways.

3. He's clearly into supporting torture and criminal wars by supporting... |
|
....Rice and Gonzales -- as is ANY Senator who supports either of them.
Their all certified members of the Bush Liar, War-monger and Torture Brigade.

I'll give him a call.
On edit: I called. Got a guy on the phone. I gave him my background and read the list of 12 retired generals who do not want Gonzales as attorney general. I told him where he could find the letter on the web and asked him to direct the senator's attention to the letter because I felt that 12 retired generals couldn't be wrong.
The aid was blase, "took in" the information, and said thanks.

5. Sounds like McCain is running a real tight ship over there. |
|
Wow, it's that easy to freak out the folks who work in his office. I would have loved to have heard that call.

Her voice got all high and a bit wavering, and she was really appalled and exasperated at my characterization of it all.
Damn pain in the a$$ Dems.

12. Your "characterization of it all"... |
|
...probably struck a nerve over there--as well it should have.

9. Someone should start a show like "Crank Yankers"... |
|
...that would call political leaders' offices and harangue them.
I'd watch that!

14. I'm convinced the Bushies have something on McCain |
|
he's been in lockstep with them - after being confrontational in his opposition to them early in the first term - ever since early last year. Did they kidnap one of his kids, or what? A stance like this is so unnatural for McCain - it really stands out. His support of the shrub during the election campaign always seemed so pained, so forced. He's not a natural pod person. Has his spine been surgically removed?
