Bush Looked Pleased With Himself At The Press Conference When ...
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 02:50 PM by arwalden
... he mused about social security being a dangerous "third rail" in politics that everyone avoided.

He beamed and smirked with self-satisfaction at his ability to properly use that hackneyed expression. Then he went on to explain it to everyone what the "third rail" alluded to and why the "third rail" was dangerous.

Oh how his eyes twinkled with self-satisfaction! He shrugged his shoulders and bounced on his heels with smug pride as though he had just introduced some brand new catch-phrase that only he understood.

Actually, I think I know why he does that. I guess he feels if it's new-to-him, then it must be new-to-us. In a small way, he's conscious of his cerebral shortcomings and he wants to demonstrate that he's not as dumb as we know he his.

The sad thing is, that his efforts to prove to us that he's not dumb only serve to underscore and reinforce our knowledge that he really IS dumb.

What a bubble-head!

1. He kept saying "the system will be broke"
about half a dozen times.

I still can't believe we have an idiot as our president.

5. he also joked that seniors have "faulty memories"
and i resent that one..haha...i hope that one comes back to bite him..and bite him hard. I think that it will. He is such an embarrassment. I think that i heard on CNN world of some poll that said something like 33% of the population think he is an embarrassment...should be 100%.

31. my 80-something parents have minds sharper than Bush's ever was!
I don't think Bush is going to handle the aging process very well. He's made a whole string of comments showing a dismissive and condescending attitude towards elderly people in general. As he passes 60, he's going to be one bitter, scared little man.

2. That is probably the thing that drives me most insane about him
When he says "in other words..." and explains the meaning of the most ordinary phrases. His last press conference he did it with "red ink". Aaargh! He reminds me of a 2 year old expecting you to clap for him for using the toilet for a bowel movement.

9. It's The Same Expression Of "I-Did-It...Look-At-Me-Mom!"
whenever he manages to painstakingly over-enunciate a multisyllabic word. It's clear that he's been rehearsing it, and he slows down his regular speech tempo to make sure he doesn't fuck it up...

Then when he realizes he said it right, his eyes dart offstage as though he's expecting someone back there to give him a wink, or nod, or thumbs-up sign of approval.

24. He has been looking for that approval from Mummy and Poppy
ALL HIS FREAKIN LIFE. Dubya needs and craves his endless supply source of enablers to fill that void in his black soul.

16. Good analogy
That describes Bush perfectly. One of the things that bothers me most about him is the way he is applauded for doing the bare minimum.

He is celebrated for doing things that he is supposed to do. For instance, consider this press conference. The media acts like it is an unprecidented achievement for a President to give a press conference, and "really has to give the President credit for taking those questions."

ITS HIS FUCKING JOB.

I am also reminded of O'Reilley congratulating Bush for sitting with him in an interview and agreeing to answer questions on the spot (rather than submitted in advance).
As Jon Stewart put it, "Which is the bare minimum that you can do and still have it considered as an interview."

30. Why would he change?
The press has shown very little interest in calling Bush on any of his mistakes or efforts to keep information from the American people. That being the case, why would he bother to change his ways?

6. "The third rail of politics, that means your political career is dead".
Chimpy muttered something like that as if to say "can't touch me 'cause I'm in my last term as president."

I can't stand the idiot.

8. Instead of crediting him with being conscious of his cerebral shortcomings
I prefer to think instead that he is so very self-centered, he really does believe that if he hasn't heard of something it truly didn't exist until he deigned to give it his attention.

there was a great one where he had Bush reeling off names of African leaders for no reason, and smirking after each one.

17. He got himself into a terrible jam
when he discovered he could add anymore. Catch it? Little girl is 8 years old--why in---in---in---by the time she reached 50, there will be no social security.

Actually Bush is operating at an incredibly emotionally precarious fashion--his emotions change almost from second to second. High, yup very high, with the Social Security and then suddenly low--oh, my God, people will notice that I can't add--great--most adults manage to maintain a mood for longer periods of time and don't bounce around from second to second--his mood literally flutters with the wind and seems just as unpredictable.

How is this guy going to make it through a second term? (until Jeb can be installed?) He knows he's expendible, at least I am assuming as much since he, in fact, appears to bring nothing but a tailored suit to any occasion

I could hear the satisfaction in his voice over having learned a new definition.

23. I read his smug smirk as something else altogether
as a swagger and a sneer that HE is more powerful than any other politician... that HE ane HE alone could take on AND WIN by challenging the "Third Rail". I saw puffery and arrogance.
