DU bashed in my college newspaper
Election is over, act like it
by John Allan, columnist

I am about to state the obvious. The 2004 presidential election is over.

Politicians on both sides are saying now is the time for the nation to pull together in this experiment called democracy and show the world why our system and our country is so great. Why, then, are liberals struggling to take their Web site's own advice and move on?

If you are oblivious to newspaper letters-to-the-editor and liberal havens like the Democratic underground forums you might need to refer to car bumper stickers to see people unwilling to concede that John Kerry lost. Don't worry, such reference material is abundant in the Tri-State.

Apparently, liberals gain hope from leaving the stickers on their vehicles. Maybe their efforts will show that the election was rigged or conservatives intimidated potential voters. Maybe Bush will be magically whisked from the White House allowing Kerry to stroll onto Pennsylvania Avenue.

This guy cause some controversy a year ago when he was pushing religious amendments in the school student government association. A few people went to his website and found his essays advocating the death penalty (by guillotine) for premarital and extramarital sex.

i'm already working on one, but if you also want to send a response (You don't have to be a student):

4. woo hoo! I am in a liberal haven.
Nevermind all those idiots driving around with W'04 stickers on their car like the election hasn't happened yet. What is that idiot smoking? He's clearly just a whiney right wing bug eating man bitch who will never do better for himself than writing drivel for a college ass-wipe of a rag (sorry to the real journalists in there).

6. Remember good old Phil Parlock??
The guy who likes to pinch his little girl to get her crying over torn up posters???? Well his kiddies go to Marshall and he is a big supporter of the University. Other than a good football team.....what the heck does this place have going for it? Hard to believe there is a bastion of neo-cons in the heart of west-by-god-virginia.
Good luck A_H with your studies there. Don't catch the disease.

7. The boy is quite confused
and not just about which words to capitalize.

Tell him it's DemocraticUnderground.com all one word. If he is going to send us traffic he should get the URL correct. ;-)

8. Here's what I wrote them...
Dear Sirs,

I'm appalled at the lack of tolerance your columnist John Allan displays toward his fellow Americans. I believe an apology is due.

This columnist not only mocks the values and rights of peaceful self-expression of half the country but also has the gall to frown upon their private gatherings because these do not conform to his beliefs.

Not only that, but to denigrate a person on the basis that he "looks French" implies a bigotry that should not be condoned in this country, let alone in an institution of higher learning.

I am deeply disappointed in your choice of columnists. To question and to inspire are always valid tasks but this fellow does neither.

Sincerely, etc.
