Having an agency overseeing the safety of drugs is a bad thing? That's interesting.
Actually, Canada's standards for drugs are not as stringent as America's are - they can import drugs that the FDA would not approve for import directly to the U.S.
Plus there is the public health care system in Canada, which, because it is, you know, huge, can negotiate lower prices as well.
Please explain what FDA "corruption" is.

It explains quite well why http://www.aims.ca/library/MPPI_pharma-revised_.pdfedited to add: It seems to be a screed from "Big Pharma". YMMV

4. ah, i see it's mostly john edward's fault. |
|
why is there nothing in that screed about health care insurance?
retail prices for prescription meds in the u.s. are insanely high because they don't expect people to pay retail. they expect people to have insurance, and they expect insurance to have limits for each covered med, and they want to make sure that the retail price is at least as high as the highest limit that any insurance company might have.
so they price it insanely high, knowing that it will get knocked down to the price negotiated by the insurance company.
if someone actually pays retail price, they just laugh all the way to the bank.

Canada has government controls on the price that can be charged for drugs.

Canada only puts price controls on patented drugs. Canada tells the company that if they want a patent on their drug, then the must agree to sell it at below market prices. This is only effective on name brand drugs under patent.
Surveys have shown that on generic drugs, American pharmacies on average, sell them at a lower price.

9. It's because the Republicans won't let you and I use group buying power |
|
to buy drugs, and get the best price. It seems their support for the "market system" ends when it comes to inflating the profits of their campaign contributing friends in the drug industry. Roebear, just tell your friends who are over-paying for their medications, that you still think it's more important for you to vote Republicans because they "support freedom".

12. That's the huge reason |
|
Yeah, there are price controls, but when you have literally millions of people in your plan, you can negotiate some phat (as the kids say) prices.
