Email I received from a repuke today:
While searching some family history, I ran across this article.
I found it interesting that rumblings similar to the current liberal
carryings-on, have been around for a long time.

http://clinton4.nara.gov/WH/glimpse/presidents/html/ja6.html

I read the article because the person has always read the facts that I sent to him.
Does this sound like today?
Well aware that he would face hostility in Congress, Adams nevertheless proclaimed in his first Annual Message a spectacular national program. He proposed that the Federal Government bring the sections together with a network of highways and canals, and that it develop and conserve the public domain, using funds from the sale of public lands. In 1828, he broke ground for the 185-mile C & 0 Canal.

Adams also urged the United States to take a lead in the development of the arts and sciences through the establishment of a national university, the financing of scientific expeditions, and the erection of an observatory. His critics declared such measures transcended constitutional limitations.

The campaign of 1828, in which his Jacksonian opponents charged him with corruption and public plunder

I wrote back to my friend and politely told him that I did not think it sounded like today because today is about the lies and deceit that drug a country into a needless war and Adams was trying to build a nation "Ours"

2. Bush is not proposing govt enhancing culture and scientific progress
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 07:59 PM by wishlist
There is no parallel to Bush whatsoever except in the eye of a RWinger who might think Bush has a bold idealistic agenda (as opposed to a dangerously reckless agenda). Adams was seeking increased leadership role of the government to promote enlightenment, knowledge and progress. Bush has instead sought to aggressively promote unchecked crony capitalism at home and abroad with rigid ideology and dishonest propaganda while stifling honest debate and scientific findings.
