I've fired a gun twice in my life (if you don't include shooting mechanical ducks with a 22 at the County Fair - never hit a one). both times a shotgun about five years apart. Hit a sparrow the first time. The second time hit a rock and cracked my nose.
That was 20 years ago. So.... well at least the NRA appreciates my handle.

5. Probably someone using that domain name |
|
The White House domain wouldn't perform spook activities, they'd leave that to something with .mil in it.

I won't share my firewall info... yes because I'm paranoid. I'm a lot like Johnny Carson, I Cherish my privacy. Suffice it to say, I have a firewall and it has blocked access to the Whitehouse over 700 times this morning. Weird!
I don't like this intrusion. I have not asked them to contact me. I don't think I've been to their web page - ever, at least as far as I can remember.
I don't smoke, I don't drink - much and I don't cheat on my wife so I can't imagine why they are contacting me.

i don't see how sharing what brand firewall you're using will make you any less secure than you may already be. all i'm looking for is any sort of log file, or any sort of details to see what exactly the ip is trying to hit.
btw- i am in the IT feild and have been for just under 10 years now. Security is one of my specialties :)

23. I'm NOT security savvy |
|
so... forgive me if I'm being rude. Telling you what kind of firewall is like giving out a key. There might be back-doors around specific firewall and I just don't want to say.
This site is monitored by the FBI so I don't want to give out too much info.
As far as the port is concerned, I'm not sure what port number their trying to access.

20. Well, if you don't tell us any more, we won't be able to help |
|
with your question. They may be trying to access port 80, for instance - which would mean they think you have a public web server. Other port numbers might indicate to knowledgable IT people that they have a well-known virus. Or they might show some nefarious intent. But if you don't tell us anymore, there's not much for us to say.

33. There's a widespread virus |
|
that hits port 445, which is a Microsoft proprietary NetBios hook. It's probable that the WH is infected. But, we already knew that, didn't we. LOL!

30. Just a thought here... |
|
....but if some office at the White House or the DoD was really trying to covertly access people's computers and/or thwart their firewalls, do you think they'd actually use an IP address that could easily be traced back to them? If so, I've got a ski chalet in downtown Houston I'd be willing to sell you..........cheap.

36. Some computer at the WhiteHouse is probably infected with a virus |
|
There's a ton of viruses out there that attempt to penetrate other machines once they've taken a new machine over.
The current White House has notoriously bad information security, so finding infected machines in their IP range would not be surprising at all.
