Nevermind

Wow, sorry I suggested it. Disregard this post.

I didn't mean to get everyone all stirred up.

One ball, no strikes.

(Kudos on fitting so many right-wing myths into so small a space, but you can do even better. Try to fit in something about welfare queens next time.)

7. OK,
The last part was a little bit of a joke.

I edited it so that it doesn't distract from the real message.

10. Hmm...Let's analyze this
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 10:53 AM by htuttle
Post has lurid and inflammatory headline: Check
Cast of characters includes liberal professor (philosophy, no less): Check
Professor is even from Yemen, home of Osama bin Laden: Check
Ties global warming in there with what some might consider potential terrorism: Check
Suggestion of forced income redistribution AND forced vegetarianism: Check (extra credit for adding vegetarianism in there)
Co-opts old line liberal slogan (act globally, etc...): Check
Seems to indicate that professor actually wants students to revolt for class credit: Check
Finally, suggests that 'return to strong, centralized governments' is the answer: Check, and this was a strong giveaway. A 'return' to strong centralized governments? We don't have one know? Was this line written by the Cato institute?

So, all in all, I'd have to conclude it's a poorly done put-on.

Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 10:51 AM by new_beawr
No bite here pal.

What happened to the text regarding your Dad and the place in the Hamptons?

If you're serious, I would direct your silly Professor to study Mao and Stalin and the horrible death and destruction they sowed with just such a philosophy. Look up the Cultural Revolution and tell him that Stalinism and Maoism failed miserably.

8. See above post
Sorry guys. I didn't mean to distract from the real point. It was a little bit of a joke.

My point was, that yes this will take sacrifices, but getting away from the industrialization and domination that the U.S. is in the midst of will be a very good thing.

9. Lets stop the empire first,
then we can worry about a postcapitalist economy.

12. yes, your Arab teacher is advocating revolution against capitalism.
I really believe that.

Stop sullying the Greens- we dont advocate returning to an agrarian lifestyle.

Read the Green Party platform if you really want meat and potatoes to engage in substantive discussion.

I challenge you to discuss the actual platform of the Green party.

Dont hide behind extremists for your debate.

16. What do you mean?
I have blown my cover? I was seriously wanting everyone's thoughts on this.

If the premise is wrong then fine, I don't have a problem with that. I am just looking for a way to end the empirialism. I wasn't really trying to stir anything up. I was just looking for a little discussion.

17. Your post was either incredibly naive or an inflammatory put-on
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 11:05 AM by deutsey
Giving you the benefit of the doubt: maybe your professor was spouting this ideological babble intentionally to jolt you into coming up with your own response to it. Philosophy isn't indoctrination; it's supposed to help you seek truth and think for yourself.

If there was any truth to what you said about your philosophy class and if I found myself in such a class, my class project would be to develop my own thoughts on revolutionary action by drawing from people like Gandhi, King, Havel, etc.

18. Thank you
for the advice.

I guess I am still trying to find the best approach to everything, so if it was a little naive, I really do apologize.
