Please support this new national, progressive, nonprofit ISP - IndyLink
(Thanks to Skinner for permission to post this promotional message!)

I wanted to let you all know that there is a new choice for those who would rather support a nonprofit progressive organization with your Internet dollars than a giant corporate provider - AOL, Earthlink et al.

IndyLink.org is a new national service offering dial-up Internet access for just $14.95 per month, the same rate as most of the discounters and much less than the big boys. That $14.95 includes nationwide access, a dial-up accelerator, popup blocking and spam and virus filtering.

This is not a commercial startup or some fly-by-night outfit. IndyLink is a project of the nonprofit Mountain Area Information Network (MAIN), which has been providing affordable Internet service to rural communities in western North Carolina since 1996. We use the revenues from our Internet service to pay for community service projects supporting independent media, entrepreneurship and diversity among other things. You can read all about MAIN at http://www.main.nc.us/about.

We are launching IndyLink because we believe there are progressives all over the country who would rather support a nonprofit that shares their values and protects their privacy than a corporation that does neither.

The long-term profit strategy of the major ISPs is really built around using their subscribers as marketing opportunities, not providing a good service at a fair price to consumers. We won't bombard you with ads or share your personal information with anyone.

If you care about progressive values and media independence, I hope you'll consider joining IndyLink - there's an online form at www.indylink.org/join.shtml. We also use our home page as a portal to some good independent news sources, so we hope you'll visit often!

If this is something you think is worthwhile, please tell your friends!

Matt
