16. Partly, and also
because they've probably already hit on a few Faeries (i could tell you stories...) and been rudely rebuffed, thereby fostering even *more* resentment - in addition to the resentment they already feel towards those of us who had the guts to come out and live our lives with few repercussions.

4. yep temptation.
They've said it themselves, gays having equal rights will end the sancity of marriage and will promote more homosexuality. They're afraid of others being converted, only because they can be converted.

6. Because gay men are more often in better shape...
what happened to the good old days when gay bashing was easy and you wouldn't get arrested for it?

Now they just throw molitov cocktails through the windows of gay bars.

Yeah, sure, THAT'S not terrorism!

when they see an attractive man will be exposed and they'll go to hell. Well they're going to hell anyway, so they should just give in to their desires.

13. Wild guess.
They are afraid of being treated like a woman? Could this be because they treat their own women as inferior beings and are afraid gay men would treat them the same?

29. no, but
according to a psychology textbook I have, it is the way it is explained according to psychodynamic theory, namely Freud's theory-- that the person in question has repressed their own homosexual impulses. It is not gay-bashing, except to say that the person would repress their impulses because of the society that they live in which condemns homosexuality. So you could say that the society is to blame.

Someone would have to conduct a scientific study to try to know whether this was true or not--don't know if anyone has. Of course there can certainly be other reasons that people would be hateful.

20. Because they aren't gay. And they don't know sons, coworkers are gay
and therefore they think it is a cheap and easy way to make a big fucking stand for morality, as opposed to the more difficult moral tasks of not cheating on their own spouses, not getting divorced, not having abortions, not having premarital sex, not coveting their neighbors' asses, etc.

26. Because they despise the feminine in anyone, including in women.
Warrior and macho cultures hate anything to do with women, thus the loathing and fear of gays. Women/gays are weak and second class. That's why it's ok for baby girls to wear blue, but not ok for baby boys to wear pink; ok for women to wear pants, but not for guys to wear skirts (even kilts). It's always all right for the lesser being to imitate the greater being, but never ok for the greater to imitate the lesser. They really hate gays because gays 'imitate' women, and as men, gays should know better than to imitate inferiors like women.

My feminist rant for the day. Been around too damn many Repubs today.

28. True; homophobia is largely rooted in contempt for women.
Notice that men are more often homophobic than women, because they are fearful of 'changing places' with women. Plus, there is the general identification of wingers with authoritarian hierarchies, as opposed to egalitarian democracies, hence they beleive the 'male over female' chain of command is a fundamental building block of society; homosexual relationships and families tend to blur this 'natural order' and 'confuse' people.
