$300 billion is the price of US for the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan

15:40 2005-01-27
U.S. President George W. Bush will ask Congress for another $80 billion for the war in Iraq, bringing the price tag for that invasion and ongoing operations in Afghanistan close to $300 billion, six times the original White House estimate.
The total is well beyond the estimate of $200 billion (U.S.) put forward by onetime White House economic adviser Larry Lindsey ? subsequently dismissed for his forecast ? and is the number Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld once derided as "baloney" on network television.
Bush's request, which Congress is expected to approve next month, came five days before Sunday's watershed Iraqi elections, amidst reports that at least 120,000 Americans will remain there through the end of next year.

That 300 Billion could have gone to Social Security Medicare Medicaid National Health Inurance Education Road construction etc...

and it went to destroying two countries... who are still not free!!!

3. 6 times the original White House estimate.
So is anyone complaining? Questioning? Or just approving more money for Bush to throw away?

6. You're right.
Once again, it is a foreign news source. Never in the U.S.A. do we get such news, unless it is buried in the back of the paper.

7. That's a little over 100 Million dollars

for each of the 2,973 victims of Sept 11, 2001.

I'm guessing that we could have given each victims family $3
Million, paid another 3 Billion to replace the twin towers (and
outfitted the new ones with the best security and anti-aircraft
defense ever dreamed of), paid each and every Iraqi family $10,000
dollars to a) overthrow Saddam and b) renounce terrorism and
c) agree to sell us oil for the next 10 years at market price.

and we STILL would have saved $238 BILLION DOLLARS over this
insane war, all without killing anyone else AND doing wonders to
promote democracy in the middle east (OK, maybe not).

8. Well, that's money well spent - a crazy liberal would just squander it...
on social services....maybe even invest in the future by paying off some of the national debt. But what do I know, I'm crazy.

11. You Forgot the 1,400 American Lives
The biggest cost was the wasted lives of 1,400+ American servicemen. Of course, this has yet to register in minds of our mindless leaders.
