Nightline
Could be interesting. Don't usually watch but Wilson and Meehan are on. Also George Allen and Perle. Townhall. About Iraq:

The audience will include members of the military who have recently returned from duty in Iraq, military families, veterans, Iraqi-Americans and a general audience with a wide variety of views on the war.

We hope you'll join us -- and consider your own answer to the question: "Why Stay?"

Umm, ahh, doesn't seem to be answering her question.

So the 55,000+ Americans that were murdered in Vietnam died for nothing? Just like the men dying now.

It's for oil. By the way, where is the oil? Who is taking the oil? Where is the money for the oil?

Allen pisses me off. He is from my state of VA. He use to be our Governor. Idiot.

Congressman Meehan looked pissed. He just got back.

Anyone that criticizes Bush is going to be taken/shouted down.

The election is going to known as the blood bath of 2005. How horrible for all of those involved.

Allen needs someone to stuff a rag in his mouth. He is Bush's biggest brown nose I've ever seen. Bastard.

9. And the seeds...
It's for oil.

The Ultimate War Crime: Breaking the Agricultural Cycle
http://globalresearch.ca/articles/KHA501A.html

"As part of sweeping "economic restructuring" implemented by the Bush Administration in Iraq, Iraqi farmers will no longer be permitted to save their seeds, which include seeds the Iraqis themselves have developed over hundreds of years. Instead, they will be forced to buy seeds from US corporations. That is because in recent years, transnational corporations have patented and now own many seed varieties originated or developed by indigenous peoples. In a short time, Iraq will be living under the new American credo:
Pay Monsanto, or starve ."

58. Well isn't that odd? They can control this, but as far as the poppy . . .
seeds and farmers in Afghanistan cannot seem to be gotten rid of.

The U.S. and DEA claim it's easier to catch the drug lords as they try to bring it into the Country. Yeah, right. I believed that the first time I heard it.

Admittedly, the Afghanistan people find this a much wealthier crop for them to grow (approximately $200 a year). Now with the Billions of dollars of OUR FRIGGIN MONEY, they cannot pay these farmers, oh say, $500 a year to grow food for the market and their families?

Evil, lying, capitalistic, Republican pigs. May their so-called Christianity save their souls because they do have a lot of praying to do. (sorry, I have no right but it is such a ridiculous situation and no one ever asks the questions).

We have all but forgotten Afghanistan like everyone who has promised to help them has done over the centuries.

28. What you will NOT see on tonight's ABC Nightline!!!
by NewWay4NewDay

Thu Jan 27th, 2005 at 23:19:41 EDT

I just came from the townhall meeting hosted by Ted Koppel at St. John's Episcopal Church across from the White House in Washington D.C. The topic is IRAQ: Why Stay?

The panel consisted of Joseph Wilson, Sen. George Allen (R), and Rep Marty Meehan (D)

There was some good dialogue, but mostly ended up that time was given primarily to the pro-war agenda. There were a few outbursts that will probably be edited out, and one major outburst from a Rabbi Waskau that you will not see because it was during a commercial break.

I am posting this now, so you are aware, and will watch Nightline, but am going to keep adding to this diary continuously until I can accurately describe the event as I witnessed it.

55. Wow. I hope everyone here takes the time to read this diary.
I hold Ted Koppel, along with most of the other media whores, personally responsible for this disasterous war. The comments in this diary are why. Koppel only pretended to present opposing viewpoints in the run up to the war. In reality, the anti-war voices Nightline allowed on air were neutered.

Freedom, liberty, and democracy. I'm tired of those words, because nobody seems to define what they mean. If they mean anything at all. My head doesn't work right since I'm a crazy lefty, but with each rotation on Earth's axis, I'm beginning to wonder if those words even exist.

their cult they call christian but they do not practice christ principles and never have - they are a cult and use words that have a broad meaning to try to get to the emotion

this is like the yellow ribbons on cars
or calling kerry a traitor for protesting a foolish war

the rw have learned to use words to divide

13. amazing how the rw guys can not see - they really stick to
the party line

Iraq is an occupied country and they are fighting for their country

we have rounded up bunches of iraqiis and called them insurgents and then let a good number go once the pictures of torture came out

90 percent of those rounded up are normal every day people

they have tortured ordinary folks and only stop once they get names - the names are ordinary people who are again tortured

these people are angry - we continue to kill innocents
what about that car with a man and woman and three kids in it - that they shot with 42 bullets -

all the weddings they have bombed
the men who they did not allow to leave falluha so they could bomb them to death
the ambulances they shot at

yes so the iraqis are mad -

I was thinking tonight of all our bases around the world - we are not occupied by another country - this must truly tick off these people to be occupied - and then like in Japan - our soliders rape locals

but the rw defends and continues to call all people insurgents

18. What was that?
The 21 year old soldier with kids, but no knees, and who was hooked up to every machine possible to save his life, asked why we're still in Iraq if no WMD were found. Ted Koppel didn't let Perle or Allen answer. Not that they were jumping out of their chairs to do so. Instead, Koppel asked a question of the solider about whether he had any feelings that we should stay in Iraq until the job is done.

And could Allen and Perle be a more appropriate duo?

Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 01:07 AM by linazelle
It was just last week that they aired a one-sided story about the possibility of election fraud in Ohio. They never mentioned the 2000 election and smeared Kenney and Lyndon Johnson as being elected fraudulently but overlooked Bush. All Nightline wants is to increase their sweeps week numbers and they know that if they air a progressive story most of us will watch in droves. Stop taking the bait and turn Nightline off period.

Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 12:45 AM by southlandshari
Anyone watching now (11:40 pm CDT)? Go, go, go, go Bobby Muller!!!!

More on Muller for those who don't know his work:

http://www.theglobalist.com/DBWeb/AuthorBiography.aspx?AuthorId=426

Excerpt:

Bobby Muller
President of the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation

In 1991, Mr. Muller co-founded the International Campaign to Ban Landmines to continue the work begun in Cambodia. The global landmine campaign received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997.

Raised in a New York City suburb, Bobby Muller's commission with the US Marines began the same day he received his Bachelors in Business Administration from Hofstra University in 1968.

As a Marine Lieutenant, he served as a combat infantry officer in Vietnam. In April of 1969, Muller was leading an assault when a bullet severed his spinal cord and left him paralyzed from the chest down.

During rehabilitation at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Mr. Muller experienced firsthand the problems of neglect, frustration and inadequate care being given to wounded veterans in the United States. He decided to fight for fair and just treatment for all veterans by joining the anti-war movement, enrolling in law school at Hofstra and eventually serving as legal counsel for the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association.
