Olbermann threatened w/getting Rathered
Hmmm, seems fundies can't take a liitle spotlight!

This, if you haven’t read previous entries, is about the SpongeBob video controversy. Dobson, of a group called “Focus On The Family,” told a largely congressional audience of his complaint about a video and accompanying teaching materials sent to 6,000 elementary schools, by referring to its distributors as a “pro-homosexual” group. Dobson invoked SpongeBob SquarePants as the centerpiece of the video, raising the specter of the laughably infamous “Tinky-Winky” controversy of the ‘90s.

Dobson came across as a nut job, the story was picked up around the world (often with the admittedly oversimplified headline “SpongeBob is Gay?”), and Dobson immediately blamed the messengers. Suddenly it was the media that had interconnected the cartoon character with the “pro-homosexual” effort, and, of course, the media needed to be feel The Wrath. As part of his weekly newsletter, he conveniently included an e-mail generating device so that people who never saw our broadcast nor knew who I was, could spam my mailbox full of what I must say is some of the most unintentionally entertaining e-mail I’ve ever gotten.

Still, if there was one disturbing element, it was the number of emails— maybe 20 percent—which invoked Dan Rather and “what we did to him.” There is evidently a mass misunderstanding of the history of Rather’s retirement from the CBS Evening News. He was not hit by vengeful lightning, although don’t go telling that to the religious right. That his retirement was being planned last summer is an irrelevancy to them.

Even in this, though, one emailer provided mirth. “We got Tom Brokaw at ABC,” he warned, “and we can get you.”

2. What an interesting admission.
They "got" Rather? So he was set up, was he? Good to know.

3. Gotta Love All That Love
I wish Keith had posted more of these letters. Supposedly Dobson was on his radio show making more noise about this today. Poor father Dobson is getting picked on by the evil, nasty Jewish-looking guy on NBC. Awww...LOL.

Let's hope Keith gets popular enough to be "Rathered" or the attempt is made. Rather helped bring Nixon down, and had he had the true support of his network to pursue the questions he was asking about * instead of biting at the staged outrage and other dirty tricks by the right wing, we would have learned more about Bunnypant's non-service. That's the real problem...Rather got too close to the truth, he had to be silenced, and CBS accomodated.

Dobson's one very dangerous wingnut, since he looks so peaceful and "fatherly". He plays that up...as well as his phony "Dr." title (it's in Divinity, not psychology) to be some "expert" when he's really just blowing his bullshit at you. Since he's not the fire & brimstone type...or says too many goofy things like a Robertson or Falwell, he gets a pass. It's time someone called his con game for what it is. Here's hoping he just gave Keith and others the rope to do that.

4. Dobson is a creep but
they do award legitimate doctoral degrees in Divinity (Theology).

5. Depends On What You Mean Legitimate
It's like Dr. Laura...she has a degree in Education, not psychology, yet most thing she's an "expert" based on the "Dr" attached to her name.

Dobson's degree is in biblical studies, not social engineering. Now, if I wanted to get an interpretation of a biblical passage, I'm sure Dr. Dobson's degree makes him very qualified to discuss the topic, but not raising a family or pushing his "morality" on me and my family.

6. I agree that these people misuse the "Dr." title.
I read years ago that dentists are the only group entitled to use "Dr." in front of their names. This was from a "Miss Manners" column on correct social usage. So Herr Doktor Dobson is not only fraudulently misrepresenting himself, he is also an ill-mannered boor!
