Want proof CNN is f***ing stupid?
Look at this...as a link it states "MLB player protests war by sitting out anthem." And then here's the link http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/baseball/mlb/01/27/bc.bbn.marlins.delgado.ap/index.html?cnn=yes

Nowhere in the story does it say he won't stand for the National Anthem....it DOES state that he won't stand for "god bless America"...now unless someone snuck this change past the entire country, when did "god bless America" become the National Anthem...??

Stupid f**ckers....

1. I guess we need to point it out to them.
Although this might be on purpose, the assholes they are.

I just read the article from another source, it's pretty cool.

"'What do you think I am, chopped liver?" he said with a grin.'"

2. I'm in Toronto
Delgado always stood for the national anthem but not God Bless America - he says in his village in Pueto Rico that fishing stocks have been wiped out and cancer rates have gone through the roof because of the US Navy testing weapons (read dirty bombs) on the beach. He likely didn't want to go into great detail with the US media, but that was always his story when he was here.

8. It's GOD BLESS OUR PRESIDENT.
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 01:18 PM by txaslftist
they changed it:

God Bless our President.
Man that we love!
stand behind him, and listen
as he leads with a voice from above!

God Bless our President.
He should be King!
And the lib'ruls, should perish
'neath his big jackbooted following!

God Bless our President.
And the G.O.P!
We followly blindly, so he can lead us...
To the Rapture coming hopefully!

And God smite the Kennedies...
Kerrys, Clark and Dean
And the Clintons, Gore and Franken
We'll make Coulter our new and blessed Queen!

God Bless Sean Hannity!
Wise man that he be.
Follow Rush and, kill the ragheads.
We'll have camps from sea to shining sea!

(I wouldn't have wanted to sing it either!)

9. I sent this note to the Marlins
I am so glad that the Marlins will respect Delgado's right to sit for God Bless America! I hope you will not be persuaded by those who falslely state that patriotism means conformity. Dissent is Patriotic, I respect Carlos as a player and as an American. I am also very proud of the Marlins. Thanks.

Please pass this message along to Carlos so that he can know, that many Americans are proud of his expression of dissent.

Erica

12. Taking a stand by sitting
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/columnists/linda_robertson/10754224.htm

<snip>

"Everybody is raving about Carlos Delgado the slugger. But I think you're going to like the man even more than you're going to like what his bat does for the Marlins.
You're going to like him, that is, if you prefer athletes who are committed to principles -- beyond the principal of their portfolios."

<snip>

"Delgado has been protesting the war in Iraq by refusing to stand during the playing of God Bless America at baseball games. When the song was sung, he remained seated in the dugout.
After 9/11, the Irving Berlin classic was performed at a New York Yankees game and became a seventh-inning-stretch standard at ballparks.

Delgado had the courage to ask, ``Why?''

Why should baseball players and fans be expected to stand for a song that has taken on a jingoistic "support-your-country-or-else" meaning? Why should baseball stadiums be used for rallies of solidarity with the government? Why God Bless America anyway? Why not Blowin' in the Wind?

"The reason I didn't stand for God Bless America is because I didn't like the way they tied God Bless America to 9/11 to the war in Iraq to baseball," Delgado said Thursday when he introduced himself to South Florida. "For that matter, I say God bless America, God bless Miami, God bless Puerto Rico and all the countries, so there's peace in the world. It's not about politics. It's about baseball, and I'm ready to play baseball."
