BEAUFORT, North Carolina (AP) -- You can get fries with your burger at a restaurant here, but just don't ask for french fries.

Neal Rowland, the owner of Cubbie's, now only sells his fried potato strips as "freedumb fries" -- a decision that comes as Americans watch French officials back away from support for possible war in Iraq.

"Because of Cubbie's support for our troops, we no longer serve french fries. We now serve freedom fries," says a sign in the restaurant's window.

In spite of the waning of the anti-French craze, which was never more than a wingnut fringe thing anyway, they continue to defiantly offer FreeDumb Fries.

OK so I won't go into why I was in the Virginia Beach courthouse :ahem: but they sell "freedom" fries at the cafe too -- me and my friend were like pointing and laughing and making comments about it and the guy behind the counter was kind of snickering too.
