Time to call the religious right exactly what they are
and what they stand for. 3 more states with anti gay marriage amendments coming up, the ridiculous crap about sponge bob square pants, their offense at showing a lesbian couple with a family making maple syrup on PBS, their assault and lawsuits on companies who offer insurance coverage to partners in same sex relationships, the hint that they are working on an agenda to do away with birth control, their continued assault on a woman's right to choose, I saw all this in just a few minutes scanning the headlines here on DU, well I say enough is enough.

Lets look at not what they say but what they do. After all actions speak louder then words. They spend their time scanning the airwaves the print news and the internet for any hint of behavior not sanctioned by their own deviant view of what religion is and then campaigning to stomp it out. Their ugly closed minded view of the world is spreading hatred, intolerance and separatism like a virus eating away at any hint of compassion, tolerance and inclusion of those who may worship differently, live differently, or love differently.

I have to give them kudos for their networking, marketing, planning and infiltration into the political realm. Until we understand that this is an all out assault that we have to fight against we will find ourselves living limited lives in boxes dictated by their sick view of what is acceptable and right.

Before you start your flame war let me clarify that this is not an attack on Christians. I know some good Christians, I know some borderline Christians, and I also know those who call themselves Christians yet act more like the KKK. The only difference is the pseudo-Christians do not set fire to their crosses. Instead they hide behind them and use them as a symbol to confuse those who may not have enough self worth or maturity to see that they are false. I do have to add that ANYONE who condones or aids their spread of hatred in any form I find complicit and just as guilty and I will fight them. They will not run my life.

Sorry for the long rant I just had had enough for one day.

1. They are religious zealots,no more,no less.
There are zealots in all religions and always have been. Most Christians don't want to be associated with the religious right so ignore them. They aren't going away but neither are we.

14. Ignoring them has gotten us into this position
I don't think we can afford to ignore them any longer. We have to get as loud and out there as they are and start standing up for our rights and beliefs as much as they do.

17. The problem is that most Americans (and certainly the media)
associate the religious right with Christianity. When the media talks about a Christian viewpoint, they are talking about the religious right. When I talk about a Christian viewpoint, I mean something very different.

I think much of the american public doesn't know what lies behind the fuzzy family-friendly agenda. If they did, they wouldn't associate the RR with their own personal religion. But without knowing enough about the RR, it is easy for the public to be swayed by Falwell et al's assertion that any criticism of them or their movements is an assault on christianity.

I think we ignore them at our peril.

that was founded on the death of their major character.

I know they say it's about the 'resurrection'...but you don't get resurrected if you ain't dead to begin with.

10. I saw the 2 women on tv this morning
and they couldn't understand what all the fuss is about when there is absolutely nothing sexual about the segment. They said what it came down to was opening the door and saying 'come in'.

Then there was the government rep who was saying 'why worry if we offend a segment of the population that only makes up 2% of our citizens?' (yes, she actually did say that)

2%? I thought gay people made up between 10% and 15% of the population?

But lying comes so easy to this admin. I think they have to take courses in it.

5. Agreed
There are good Christians, those who try to continue the works of Christ. They help the poor, they give of themselves, and they this with no expectation of a reward, they do it because it's the right thing to do.

They forgive, they accept, they tolerate, they are the true Christians.

I have always believed that it takes more then reading passages out of the Bible to make a Christian a Christian. It takes a belief in the teachings of Christ, not the tenets of the Church, Church law was
made by man and man is a flawed creation, Christ wasn't.

You are right they are just the KKK without the burning crosses, but what's worst they aren't just white anymore.

From what I remember the republican politicians were side stepping the gay issure and trying not to mention it.

It's gotten far worse as now bigotry is blatant headlines and isn't being fought against.

This massive attack on gays is going to grow and lead to civil unrest and hate crimes.

A few years the country was divided on the gay issue, how long do you think that progress will last when the politicans and media(covering it and not calling it the bigotry it is) are going backwards.

All of this shouldn't be ignored. It's terrify and they are turning up the heat. Gay persecution to the point of driving gays out, is their only intent.

I am not gay, but I certianly see this. Most americans eat what they are fed and well be pulled along with the gay-racism, even though it's against everything they've been taught through the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Bush should be tried for spreading gay hatred and all of those politicans doing this, as well as church leaders.

They won't be tried until people die from it though, and then it will be too late.

15. I am a Christian, and I am in TOTAL agreement with you! I posted
a thread a couple of days ago showing the how Hitler used Christianity just as GW and the right wing nuts are doing now. We need to get the word out more about this and how the founding fathers were trying to protect us against this very thing. It is so important to have separation of church and state.

As I was flipping stations the other night I caught a second of Hanity talking to James Dobson (Focus on the Family nit-wit)-- Hanity says Up until about 1962 there was prayer and Bible reading in schools and nobody died. What is everyone so afraid of? Yeah Hanity that is the point of keeping religion out of public schools, we are worried people will DIE!

Here is they link to my thread if you want to check it out.

gays like this, which is their agenda, women are next.

Look at the republican agenda for women.

At this rate being gay is becoming a crime, and being a woman who is unmarried and without kids, or who chooses divorce, sex before marriage, or is pro choice, will eventually be a crime also.

We ARE in a nazi state and the Gays are the new Jews. Anyone insisting there is no comparrison is an idiot. I can turn on my TV and see the Gay-racism and hatred. I can read the news and see how gays are being turned out from having rights under our constitution. Even sponge bob is getting kicked out. It's popular to insult gays as far as politicians are concerned. So who can protect gays when the government is leading a political attack against them?

I hope the gays are planning their exit because the time when they are being locked up for being a danger to american values is quickly approaching. Gay supporters, Women, and liberals, are next.

21. by their fruits shall ye know them
the religious wrong is rotten to the core, and their focus on spongebob instead of tsunami victims, lesbians on pbs instead of single mothers and children homeless in the street, and the multitude of other examples are plenty of evidence for me that their priorities are horribly misplaced.

There are liberal christians and liberal christian leaders who denounce the religious right, but they have a hard time getting air time, unfortunately.

Infact they are REALLY against it.

The taxpayer money is only to line their pockets. They will find a way to give it to republican companies.

If you mention social services the republicans will get mad and yell you are a communist and want the gov to take care of you in a free ride.

Republican voters aren't smart enough to know the tax payer money is for the US Citizens and what they, through elected officials, want to spend it on.

Their IQ's really are the bottom half. Remember the bell curve - half of all iqs are under 100 and half over, equally distributed on both sides. There are the same amount of 120's as there are 80's. We are dealing with morons. I kept noticing I was talking to people who weren't all there, and finally quit ignoring it. So as un-couth as it is to call out an imbecile, I'm going to say, on average, they are.

39. After all, the Second Coming is right around the corner...
...so who needs to worry about social services? The only duty of a True Bible-Believing Christian(tm) (a.k.a. fundie) is to win as many souls for Jesus before he returns, and thus save those people from burning in Hell for all eternity. Compared to deliverance from eternal torment, how important is a trivial thing like giving a bowl of soup to a homeless person, but leaving them in their sin? Besides, all this "social service" rhetoric comes from socialists, which are the same as communists. Thus, concern with social services is the sign of those with an anti-Christian agenda.
