Does the (TV) media correctly translate arabic?
I'm watching CNN and they're talking to "random" people on the streets of Baghdad and everyone they talk to is like "we need this election to establish democracy in Iraq" or "we are not afraid of the danger, we will vote" or "the insurgents don't scare us".

So I'm thinking it's one of two things; scripted of bad translation?

:wtf:

1. They slant it for their purposes...
It's easy to translate in a biased manner...

3. When you interview 100 people, it's easy to get 10 to agree with you

4. What's the average Iraqi man in the street saying on Al-jazeera?
Oh, that's right. Al-jazeera has been removed from Iraq. So much for freedom of the press.

6. Last that I heard.
Several months ago. They may have been let back in if they agree to only report happy stories. I don't know.

Whoever thinks you can have a democracy without a free press is, well, unAmerican.

9. I have long wondered if we ever get an accurate
translation of anything in Arabic, Farsi, etc., etc. It is well-known that few native-born Americans speak such languages. Why WOULDN'T we be lied to, it's such a perfect opportunity?

I don't even trust the translations of the bin laden tapes. But then again, I don't even trust the authenticity of the bin laden tapes themselves...
