Fellow Clark Supporters! BIG Meetup, And Some Hearsay Info!
Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 10:35 PM by DoveTurnedHawk
So I just got back from the Santa Monica, CA Clark Meetup. We had about 60 people there, WAY more than I had predicted! It was almost as many people as the Dean Meetup last week, which is pretty damn good for a guy who isn't even running yet, and who has 1/9 or so of the number of Meetup members.

The speaker was affiliated with the brand new Draft Clark office in Los Angeles (PM me if you want the info), and he said that yesterday, he'd spoken to someone very close to Clark for 2.5 hours, and all of the indicators were that he was going to run! He also said Clark had been in Los Angeles for the Maher show and stayed in town over the weekend to take the temperature of some big donors and supporters.

It was really inspiring, although I'm sure my account doesn't do it justice. One thing I noticed, the age demographic of the Clark Meetup folks compared to the Dean Meetup folks was about a decade (or more) older. The majority had been involved in politics before, unlike quite a few of the Dean folks who were just starting on their first campaigns.

I am SO ready to work for the General! If he gets in, he wins, I have little doubt!

1. Hey Thanks DTH!
Some folks on here have been a little down in the mouth tonight. I feel deeply in my heart after the media marathon, he IS RUNNING!

3. Bears out what my sister said
She was at a much smaller Clark meet-up tonight. Although there were all different ages at the Dean ones we've attended, overall, the Clark meet-up was more heavily middle aged and male. Quite a few of them were veterans, too.

5. Its as easy as 1 2 3.
Clark fans may have intermittent nervousness.

But the three totally freaking guys during this drip, drip, drip are aWol, KKKarl and Unka Dick. They may soon be thinking of renegotiating their lease deals. And KKKarl will be hampered by prison communication systems.

4. Woodstock.... do your own math
A lot of Clark supporters happened to be over 50 at his meetup.

That's a generation.

13. I'm Not the Corporate Media
But I do have eyes and ears, and my perception was that the Dean demographic was about a decade or more younger, and less "experienced" in politics (which really doesn't have to be a bad thing at all, unless you're incredibly touchy and perhaps just a tad insecure).

You don't like it? Tough. That's what I saw.

6. Umm...What's Your Problem?
Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 11:03 PM by DoveTurnedHawk
I love Dean. I attended his Meetup because he is my choice if Clark doesn't run.

There is no study, but then you already knew that. Just my clearly labeled opinion based on anecdotal evidence.

You're a really classy person.

DTH

Responding to Your Edit: I compare him with Dean because Dean is clearly the Meetup leader. You should be happy about that. Stop being so touchy.

11. You old scenario squasher you!
You sure showed him what's what! I bet that's the last time he invents his own scenario based on his own observations -- from now on, he'll ask you what he saw, and then create a scenario that meets with your approval.

20. Don't bother asking my permission -- I'll give you a blanket 'no'
now, based on the general tone you've adopted throughout this thread. Sorry, but you did say you'd ask. Look on the bright side though -- I just saved you the trouble of asking!

7. I just got back from
our Clark Meet Up. We didn't get that gossip but it would be good news. We have a good group of people who are willing to give much time and effort should Clark decide to run.

Don't know much about the age demographics of Clark supporters. OUr group of over 50 has a pretty wide range of late 20s to late 60s. Pretty broad spectrum. I can see Clark inspriring young people to get involved. Hee seems to be able to appeal to a wide range of backgrounds.

19. I just got back from mine in AZ.
35 people were there, as opposed to 40 for the Dean meetup -- Dean has something like 1000 people registered on Meetup in AZ, as opposed to only 100 for Clark, so the ratio was exceptional, especially considering, as you noted, Clark hasn't declared.

I was one of the youngest people there, and I won't be seeing my 30s again without the aid of a time machine.

I was happy to see a couple of other people of color, and the folks who were there seemed pretty knowledgeable about politics in general, with some quality discussions about the other candidates. None of the nasty bashing shit that goes on here, either -- just figuring out who would do well in an election, what it will take to get to the election, and so on.

No cool rumors though, although the people who organized it seemed certain Clark would run. It was an interesting experience, and I will probably commit some of my time to Clark's campaign if he runs, and if not, to local Dem politics. Met a couple of people from the state party machine, and I liked them, and wouldn't mind working with them.

22. Nice!
I think that Clark will electrify the nation if he runs. All kudos to Dean for his Internet and Meetup efforts, but I think Clark has the potential to surpass him with a little work and word-of-mouth (assuming, of course, he decides to run).

I was one of I think only three or four people of color there, which was surprising given L.A.'s diversity. The Dean Meetup had slightly better diversity, with a few additional Asian folks than at the Clark meeting.

Just like your experience, everyone there was very positive, and the only bashing was directed toward Bush.

I volunteered my time and money and legal services to Clark if he runs. Now we just have to wait and see. :-)

25. Just got back from the Sacramento meetup
could not make it back to town in time to go to my Reno meet up so I went to Sacramento, I think there were 13 people there and they are going to try to have a rally of Clark supporters at the capitol and alert the media for when he announces, even though I live in NV I'll pick up my parents and take them to that rally. I'll forward any info I recieve from the group.
